Thats interesting.

I still have some data left - maybe you cant re-buy 'fresh' data, till the rest has run out.

Will try again, when it has.

Thks

Ahh, made an error.

On the services page, I didnt realise the drop down box had self-service USSD as an option.

I selected the USSD, and got :

Receive:Cell C Customer Menu:
-----------------
1-Data Settings
2-Data Bundles
3-Balance
4-Customer Details
5-Product Info
6-Block SIM
7-BlackBerry
8-Please Call Me
9-PhotoCode

Send:2
Receive:Data Bundles
-----------------
1-R50 for 100MB
2-R100 for 250MB
3-R150 for 500MB
4-R250 for 1.2GB
5-R400 for 3GB
0-Back

Send:5
Receive:To activate a 3GB bundle, ensure you have R250 airtime available to cover the cost. Then dial *101*4*400# after ending this session.

Send:*101*4*400#
Receive:Time out

So, progress, but havent yet been able to get the data from the USSD, maybe cos I have data left.

Tried something else.

I disconected the cell-c stick, and the services tab still works.

When I sent the command

*101*4*400#

even thou the cell-c stick wasnt, active, the data was loaded :)

cool .. hope this helps other people

OK...this thread is confusing as all hell :p

I get how to buy prepaid airtime by buying a voucher at a shop or by using Internet banking. I also get how to convert that airtime into data. What I don't get is the pricing.

If you're on the 24GB or 60GB prepaid promo package, you've paid for that in advance at 5c per MB. Fine.

According to the website, if you want to buy 3GB more (for example), it'll cost R400 which translates to 13c per MB. Also fine.

But you said you chose nr. 5 in the USSD menu, which is listed as "R400 for 3GB" (same as the website - fine), and the response then said: "Receive:To activate a 3GB bundle, ensure you have R250 airtime available to cover the cost."

So which is it... 3GB for R400, or 3GB for R250 (which is ~8.14c / MB)???

I think that's a Typo, he made a mistake. It's R400 for 3GB.

It is confusing. But, this is whats happening.

Send:*147#
Receive:Cell C Customer Menu:
-----------------
1-Data Settings
2-Data Bundles
3-Balance
4-Customer Details
5-Product Info
6-Block SIM
7-BlackBerry
8-Please Call Me
9-PhotoCode

Send:2
Receive:Data Bundles
-----------------
1-R50 for 100MB
2-R100 for 250MB
3-R150 for 500MB
4-R250 for 1.2GB
5-R400 for 3GB
0-Back

Send:3
Receive:To activate a 500MB bundle, ensure you have R150 airtime available to cover the cost. Then dial *101*4*150# after ending this session.

so, the actual command to reload .. *101*4 is to tell it to load data, and the amount .. 150, 250 or 400, is how much data you actually want.

I am using about 3gb every 5 days (I know), its a lot - but, I download a lot of financial data.

I often get ..

Send:4
Receive:Time out

error msg, but, eventually, after up to 10 tries, it goes thru.

and u get

Send:*101*4*400#
Receive:Your request has been processed successfully. An SMS will be sent to you shortly. Cell C, the power is in your hands

I've got like 250MB left and just recharged and it was successful the first time around.

I think it would be helpful if the OP was edited by either; the OP or a mod with the correct details.

I only use my 5GB promotional in my SGS and have run out of data - so wanted to try adding a 100MB till the end of the month.
Well actually giving it a bash now.

EDIT:

R70 airtime purchased with FNB Internet banking

To activate a 100MB bundle, ensure you have R50 airtime available to cover the cost. Then dial *101*4*50# after ending this session.

Worked like a charm 1st time round :)
Thanks to all of you that have endured the chaos before me and shared the information :D

Just to be clear, are the previous steps necessary?
It seems that the *147#,2 sequence just gives you the pricing, the actual bundle purchase was done by the *101*4*50# sequence.

Actually thought about that after I'd loaded it. Seeing that I had a big update and chowed through the 100mb, I've got to reload some more data. Will be doing so in a few minutes and will update if the *101*4*50# can just be used.

*101*4*50# works out of the box. Immediately loaded bundle. After punching in USSD code, a message pops up that I'll get a confirmation message about the transaction.

No message but an instant check with *101# reveals that the data has been loaded.

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't use prepaid. I have an ActiveChat 100 contract that gives me my awesome Galaxy i9000 without taking a bank loan ;-)

But I'm having a sad time using:-(

Let me clarify. Speed is no problem (350Kb/sec on Speedtest). Connection is no problem (I'm in Cape Town). My issue is with the cost. Nowhere on their website have Cell C indicated the data cost if you don't purchase a data bundle. Some posters seem to be "in the know" and have quoted R 2 per MB in their posts, but how do they know this? From my last invoice which is causing my headaches, they charged me R 1.75 per MB (yet their highest out-of-bundle rate is only 50c in the only place they mention data tariffs) and my bill has shot through the roof. I could have bought into the 2Gig R999 data offer for less!!!

The other headache is that the website says:
For Cell C SP customers bundles can be added via in-store or via the call centre. NO USSD activation
...but the menu options on 140 don't give you this as an option (I tried 3 different paths with no success), so I waited for the agent. He told me to use the *101*4*... sequence, and despite me indicating that I have a contract, he was insistent... so I tried it (despite what the website said - I have no confidence that site now anyway)... and obviously it doesn't work... I get the message "Rejected" (tried 3 times).

Is there anyone able to buy data bundles to add onto their existing voice contract account without trekking to the nearest store?

I may sound lazy but having renal failure and osteoporosis at 40 makes little journeys to the mall less enjoyable than before.

How to: PUT DATA ON DONGLE.

i did this with the R250 for 1.2gig and don't knw if it works exactly the same with the other bundles, but here's how.

1) Put Dongle sim in phone
2) Load R250 on sim
3) *101*4*250#

and you're good to go!

Is this on the website? Why do they not put this on the web? Is it in the manuel? ...

Can this not be done via the dashboard:

Services Tab -> Balance Enquiry & Recharge -> Load voucher number & click recharge
Then Edit Command and add the 101 USSD

Just quick free advice, buying bundles for anything less than R150 (500MB) is a waste of money since Cell C charges you 39c/MB out of bundle (And this does not expire in 30 days) i.e. Bundles less than R150 are chagred at prices above 39c/MB and expire

I'm trawling around looking for info on whether it is yet possible to combine two Smartdata bundles. Appears not to be possible. Pity as I would like to add 2Gig to my 5Gig without having to buy, register and later insert a separate SIM into my E1820.

Anyone tried to do this and know if its poss/imposs? I'm planing to buy the 2Gig SIM package in the next 2 hrs at Cell C Cresta and my experience of shop staff is that they don't know much!

It's been like this for over a week now. I have the required amount of airtime to purchase the bundle, but I'm still unable to load it!

I've called 140 three times already, and they're even unable to load it from their side. I've had the problem escalated, and am still waiting for my call to be returned.

Help?! :crying:
