How do I load Smartdata Bundles? (solved)

I have trawled the entire Cell C website and even written to Trevor, but have no answer on my question as yet.

I am aware that one can load Smartdata Bundles (See http://cellc.co.za/internet/data_prepaid/smartdata-bundles) to my prepaid Speedstick Promotion offering. I basically need to top up with more prepaid data as I'm running out of my 2gig cap soon.

How exactly do I go about doing this?

- Do I buy airtime at a shop and somehow convert it into data? (If yes, how?)
- Are there data bundles one has to purchase from selected stores?

I can't believe Cell C have no guide on how to do this painlessly?

Can someone shed some light on this for me please?

Cell_C, Thank you for your prompt reply.

Please can you elaborate further on your brief statement, as I'm still unclear.

1. What stores are you referring to? (Official Cell C stores, or general dealers that sell Cell C airtime? [or both])
2. Please clarify how Smartdata Bundles are loaded onto your prepaid account. (the exact method/s please).
3. Can I presently buy airtime and convert it into a Smart Bundle? (I'm need this ASAP)

Regards
Ant

Cell C Rep,
The steps to purchase a top up bundle that are available by USSD *147# on the Cell C Dash, does buying a bundle that way work correctly yet?
Once again for Prepaid Promotion stick.

@Tun & Cell_C

I have looked at the *147# USSD facility on the dash, but to obtain data bundles you need to follow the resulting menu, and then enter the '16 digit bundle code' into the line.

I need to know how one actually gets hold of the 16 digit bundle code.

I would have thought you would simply load enough prepaid airtime to the value of the bundle required, and simply convert it into data, like Vodacom do.

Come on Cell C, you going to force me to spend money elsewhere if you don't respond ASAP.

What am I missing here?

Cell C should definitely allow conversion of normal airtime to data bundles, as VC do. Also, they should partner with online banking sites (FNB etc) to allow for easy purchase of data bundles. It really is a no-brainer - make it easy to buy bundles and you'll sell more bundles. Nobody wants to go into a bloody store to physically buy your data bundles Cell C! MAKE IT EASY.

Maybe they want to make it hard so that everyone keeps paying the crazy R2/MB OOB rate - but that would not be good for business... On that note I am still outraged that they didn't lower the R2/MB OOB rate

I just received this email from someone at telltrevor.co.za.
So, it seems you can't just buy airtime and convert into data bundles.
That truly sux. :(

As i or others bought a 2GB/5GB promo pack aren't we Pre Paid subscribers?
i.e: Pay per month promo = Contract ,Once off purchase = Prepaid.
As it says in the picture below the price of the modems.http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/dat...omotion-supersonic-surfing-for-only-5c-per-mb

I have 200MB to finish otherwise i'd try it - Have read somewhere you can only have 1 lot of data working & when you enable 1 it kills the other so ain't trying this early to waste 200MB.

My understanding from what you received above is we should be able to purchase bundles by USSD

@Tun

I agree with your interpretation. We are technically Pre paid customers. We paid for our bandwidth and modem up-front. We certainly are not Post paid because we owe nothing and have no account.

Thanks for bringing it our attention that one can't add one lot of data to the next, and that the preceding data will be lost. I wonder how many people are aware of this.
The way I see it, is you paid for it, you should be able to keep it.

@ Cell_C

Come on guys, your lack of detailed response to this issue is becoming nothing less than negligent!
Surely it can't be that difficult to relate the terms and methods to us, unambiguously and in plain English.
We not asking you to change your policies. We just asking how your business operates.

By tomorrow, I will have used all my bandwidth and will have to revert to buying bandwidth from
your biggest competitor to stay online, and believe me, my soul rebels against that thought.

Yes like which is it:
From Tell Trevor
For our Control chat and Pre paid subscribers data bundles can Purchased/Activated via USSD code: *101*4*price of data bundle#
or from SmartData Bundles Terms & Conditions:
For Cell C SP customers bundles can be added via in-store or via the call centre. NO USSD activation

I'm assuming SP = SmartData Promotion

Also in SmartData Bundles Terms & Conditions:http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/dat...omotion-supersonic-surfing-for-only-5c-per-mb

# A customer can NOT have more than one (1) data bundle activated on a single line (one bundle per line).
# A customer will be required to first cancel his/her existing smart data bundle should he/she wish to activate another bundle

Does this mean if i have eg 200MB left as part of my monthly allowance and i purchase/ activate a new bundle that the 200MB is lost?

Why dont you buy a new 2GIG data only bundle for R999?
This will be much cheaper than topping up. Lets say ou top up with 2 GIG 3 times in 12 month period(3X400=R200) it will cost you more than what it costs you for 24GIG bundle.

Now if you could only load the 2GB bundle onto your existing call contract then that would be the best thing ever...! **dreams**

I can confirm that this works with Controlchat
For our Control chat and Pre paid subscribers data bundles can Purchased/Activated via USSD code: *101*4*price of data bundle#
EDIT: You need to have the right amount of airtime loaded, and it then converts that airtime into data.

My specific need at this point is to add 500mb to my account so I can get through to the end of this month (in 8 days).
For specific reasons I had to use slightly more data than I usually do this month, hence I need to top up.
I will not be using 4gb a month at this point, so an extra 2gig account won't suit my needs in the short-term.

I really think Cell C will have to address the ambiguity of their published policies with regard to topping up Pre paid Smart Data accounts and make things clear for us sooner than later.
I predict more SmartData Promotion customers will be looking to do the same, and find themselves in the similar predicament as Zenbass, Tun@ and myself.

At this point I'm not prepared to pay the standard R2/mb, when there is a 30c/mb bundle offering (R15 for 500mb).
I just need to know if I will get the 30c/mb offering by using the *101*4*price of data bundle# option, or will I have buyer's remorse at R2/mb?

Damn, this is frustrating!

i've also mailed cust servs to find out how to convert airtime to data bundle.
want to test the data connection with a few office sales guys, so got prepaid sim and loaded R105 airtime, before commit to 2Gb/5Gb... so dont wanna just go and use it, coz it will be at R2meg out of bundle... rather load 100meg bundle to test with... cant find the instructions anywhere.
logging into cellc webpage does not offer ability to buy bundles like V4me site (good idea to look at getting this function cellc!"
so will have to phone help desk tomorrow... phoning & talking to support guys is sooo last year :) why is the info not on the website? surely if people can get the info they need off the web themselves that reduces load on support staff?!
