I have a monitoring device that I need to connect to to read enviromental data.

The monitoring device uses a GPRS modem to connect to MTN server. All good.

I need to access the connection over the web from other sites.

So how can I get a Fixed IP for this connection? I can get the IP at first connection but after that everything is automated, so if the GPRS drops connection and it re-connects - we end up with adifferent IP.... so I need to overcome this problem of not knowing the new IP.

Any suggestions with this setup?

Thanks in advance

Use a dynamic DNS service, like DynDNS, then it won't matter that the IP address changes.

Yes - but does it work on GPRS connections?
As long as you have a public IP address, MTN have an 'MTNVPN' APN and Vodacom have an 'unrestricted' APN for this purpose. They also provide open incoming ports, which you probably require as well.

The unrestricted APN's from VC and MTN give you inbound access and a public IP but they won't give you a fixed IP. The only way to get a fixed IP is if you get your own corporate APN. Its going to set you back a few grand in setups and some other fees but its really worth your while if you planning to put more than 10 or 15 of these devices in the field.

PM me if you want info on who to speak to about that.

I have been montoring my IP address when loggin onto the MTN 3G network.. Seems I always have one of only two IP addresses. Was hoping to get a random jobbie each time...

unrestricted MTN APN?

Hi

How does one get an "unrestricted" APN on MTN prepaid?

Is it possible?

Vodacom "unrestricted" seems broken since Monday :(
