How Harmony OS could take on Android

Not a chance of this ever happening outside the borders of China. They can sit in their own country and fight Google from there. They will succeed with their communist attitude there. As for the rest of the world, we prefer Google. They are a stable company offering great products, services and support. Either you like Google or you don't. Either you leave them or you don't.
Don't underestimate the Chinese or their will to develop.they have immense technological skill, workforce. Do we prefer Google? The only Google product I still use is Android because there is no alternative YET. But that will change soon. Also China might have a Communist government but they are capitalists. It's not the 50s anymore.

Each to their own.

Without access to Western patents or designs or code, I highly doubt the Chinese have the ability to create any product that even matches those of Google. But, that is just me... until the day they actually manages to do so, but even then I am inclined to stick to the West. Communists are just too unstable and dishonest for me to trust them with anything related to me or my business.

Yep, a lot of Saffers no longer interested in Huawei since the threat arised of them possibly no longer being able to access Google services.
Yet there is alternatives already to Google. There are great alternatives to Drive, Gmail etc. Most people just stick to the usual because it's loaded on their phones already and they are lazy to investigate alternatives.

Not a chance in this world I will be leaving an established company like Google for any newcomer to the market. So many new start-ups came to market with huge potential only to vanish off the scene in a few years' time. While some actually had the decency to inform users of them closing down and allowing them to remove content, most of them simply dissappeared.

So, I tend to stick to what I know, who I know. I tend to stick to those who already proven themselves. No need for me to explore alternatives. Over and above this, the company I stick to is on top of the game. They keep expanding and improving services and technology.

There is absolutely no incentive to risk my business or my own information and data with any other company.

At the end of the day none of this really matters. The Chinese are already struggling with Harmony. There will be many issues if and when they go to market. They are likely never to solve the issues they are about to experience. I foresee Harmony failing in most Western countries around the globe. It will probably be forced down on Chinese users. Huawei's success was mostly attributed to Android coupled with Google services. The moment this agreement was cancelled between the parties, this was the moment that Huawei failed abroad. They have no other option but focusing on the Chinese markets. They will not be making it anywhere else in the world. And, do not come to me with "But, South Africa...". SA is a small irrelevant market. It means nothing to the big players any longer.

They don't need patents or designs. Everything is already right there open source and free. It's only the proprietary Google stuff which is needed exactly because it's proprietary. Another platform makes that unnecessary and redundant.

And, the only reason they cannot get it, is because Google does not have any dealings with them. They cannot place Google in the same position they are doing with other companies around the globe to get their hands on that patents.

And they don't need that. The part you don't seem to be grasping. It's the Google ecosystem which needs it and again needs it to be proprietary to keep people in the Google ecosystem.

Without it it's like the Linux ecosystem. Which is what it's built on in any case.
