I asked to be upgraded from 384kb to 4mb on Friday but have yet to receive the near instantaneous activation that most get. Should I restart my router or will Telkom give me a message to do so when it is ready? The man on the phone said up to 2 weeks

Looking forward to that sweet 4mb+ (10mb area) so hopefully it comes quickly!

1st of all I envy you, used to have 4mb but had to downgrade my line to 512k as my line was too unstable on 4mb than downgrade again to384k as 512k pricing is ass rape...

it's supposed to only take a couple off hours as they only need to make change on their system but with telkom service you can expected at least a week. I would advise you however to check your router status regularly as it might get done & than they take their time to let you know.

Some people is lucky and get upgraded within 2 working days.
I had some problems, and had to re apply. Mine took about a week.
And no one let me know when it was done. Best thing to do is reset your modem every now and then, and hope for the best.

I also phoned them about 3 times a day to check what the status was. A good thing, otherwise I wouldn't have picked up that there was a problem.

When I upgraded, it took a few hours, phoned them and in about 3 hours it was done.

So basically it has a range of +- 1 hour to 2 weeks I would say.
I know this is Telkom we are dealing with here, but do you think I'll get the upgrade on the weekend?

unlikely

How long is a piece of string? Phone them and ask - surely you have a ref?

Eh, I'll just wait 'til Monday. I reckon that's the earliest.

Besides, Telkom tech support = 20 minute wait.

I was actually impressed with the tech support. I never had to hold on for more than a minute to be helped with any of the 40+ calls I made in that week.

MyBB is the best place for info - I share a phone with the people upstairs where I live, so the shlep of getting it from them > posting here, seeing as it is a knowledgeable place.

Was just askin'.

The upgrade / downgrade process takes less than a minute and can be done at any time, provided the consultant can understand English and actually does what has been requested.

mine was upgraded from 512k to 4096k the moment i put the phone down , but the consultant did say it would take a few days because the speed wasnt tested in my area
