Some restaurant owners and managers are shocking. I've also heard of deductions for card payment fees.
Where possible, we (the Chinese and I) pay the bill with the card and give a cash tip.
If the bill is about R100 then I rather give them R20 instead of 10%.Have noticed a disgruntled look on the faces of waiters/ waitresses when tipping 10% on a bill of R150- 200.
Not sure what they are expecting.
Same in many places. In the land of the rising sun it's considered an insult to tip the servers
But its the principle. I am prepared to pay 10% extra for sitting down to eat.If the bill is about R100 then I rather give them R20 instead of 10%.
But, if the bill is R500+ then I make it 10% (rounded upwards).
If the waiter is unhappy for a tip to do his job, I'll simply take it off.Have noticed a disgruntled look on the faces of waiters/ waitresses when tipping 10% on a bill of R150- 200.

You don't have to tip a cent. It's not required. But its the principle. I am prepared to pay 10% extra for sitting down to eat.
Don't agree with paying more.
And if it was your kid trying to earn some money to put themselves through college would you feel the same? You don't have to tip a cent. It's not required.
Uh. I'm not talking about feelings. I'm stating that there's no legal obligation to tip. In other words, don't let a waiter having a bad day spoil your outing. And if it was your kid trying to earn some money to put themselves through college would you feel the same?

I don't encourage bad service.15% when it is my turn to pay
When @Iamn0tageek pays he tips nothing so I always carry a R50 note to tip the waiter as it is better than nothing
