FNB is now forcing me an actual visit each time a new account is opened. I opened two accounts for my children last year online and on each I was informed to visit the branch in order to open the accounts. I also opened a second savings account for myself online, but was later told to visit the branch to have it opened.

An actual visit is required when updating In Contact information. They no longer allow this online on new accounts and in some instances the system does not update the information on old accounts either.

An actual visit is required once a year when they do FICA (before I could have uploaded the documents, but they told me from this year I need to visit the branch every year with original documents.). Plus, they only give me 5 business days to do this or risk having all my accounts frozen.

FNB is moving back to actual branch visits from my experience.

Have never visited my current bank.

Never - This is why you have a private banker.

Capitec you also have to visit the bank in person to open an account.

Yes, as far as I know they do not even have an online facility to open an account. You can only send them a message, if you are interested, and someone will call you and tell you to visit a branch.

FNB do have the facility to open accounts online, and I opened at least 3 over the years without issues. Only since last year they implemented new changes it seems and they require actual visits.

March 2018. Will have to go again when my card expires but prefer it to waiting for a delivery driver to rock up and getting comments from reception about spending my nonexistent money. Going to a branch I just get a printed card and walk out.

Not anymore https://www.capitecbank.co.za/global-one/transact/move-to-capitec-with-a-selfie--anywhere-anytime/
This means you won’t have to visit a branch to open your account or activate the banking app.

The last time I visited was when the bank wanted biometric information. :)

We need a "only when the scum forced my hand" option

Capitec, Never, no need.

Standard Bank, one a week, nothing works and their staff are horrible. Literally the worst banking experience ever. Not even just banking, it's the worst service industry experience ever.

Agree, Standard Bank smells... but FNB is a swear word to me.
Anyway, us poor peeps don't need to go in anywhere near like when we weren't.
