How Seacom can apologise

I don't really care about what documents they have in existence to protect themselves. I am a paying customer and if they want to retain my custom they better start treating me with a bit of respect. I don't see any respect coming from them right now and that is just not right.

I saw what you said about insulting comments, but I have to say you sound like a Brit: obsessed with blame, shame and regret. You don't live in New York or London or Tokyo, and you simply cannot expect service like that here. Our ISP's announced service disruptions beforehand, thereby showing respect to their clients. The ISP's did not cause the disruptions. Get over it, please.

Oh what rubbish!

Why should things be any different here to what they are like in any country where customer service is expected? It's the exact attitude that you suggest we should all have that resulted in our telecomms industry being so far behind the rest of the world in the first place.

The ISP's who buy data from IS/Seacom need to be acting on behalf of their clients and demanding that their providers do something to not only repair the frigging cable, but also their fledgling relationships with customers like you and me. If they adopt a STFU attitude they won't have customers for very long.

A little bit of goodwill goes a long, long way.

My electricity was off today for 8 hours  i couldn't make toast, coffee and most importantly my electric blanket was just sitting there.Eskom better give me free electrics for 5 years!
i mean really ffs some ppl should just accept $hit happens.

I think you should sue someone for 10 billion dollars.

Everyone knows Seacom/Sea-Me-We4 has no internal redundancy and that there is a risk there. True redundancy means the ISP has to have a duplicate pipe available 24/7 which costs cash. You clearly went for an ISP that hasn't done that. You get what you pay for.:o

This is causing them a lot of grief and they are quite motivated regardless of whether someone huffs & puffs & jumps up and down angrily. Besides, fixing a cable isn't as easy as changing a tire so give them a break.

Non of you get it, do you? Why not pull your heads out of your UNIX books and learn something about marketing and the concept that "customer is king".

As for electricity cuts... do you think that if we had more than one supplier of electricity in this country we would be this far up the creek without any paddles?

BTW, I chose Axxess because they were offering a cheap product. I have no idea about redundancy on their system, but I do have an idea about what they can do if they want to see any more of my money.

Sure. My ISP sent me a nice email beforehand, advising me that maintenance work will be done on an undersea cable on the other side of this continent. My ISP is in Cape Town. I think the cable repair work was done on the north coast of KZN. How should I apportion blame to my Cape Town-based ISP?

Shall I whine, gnash my teeth, tear my hair, and fling wild accusations of misbehaviour at innocent parties?

Tomorrow when I drive to work, I will be severely delayed because of road works on the N1 in Cape Town. Perhaps I ought to demand a change in government, or insist the city chief engineer is fired, or at least has a months' salary docked. How dare he delay ME!

I am not in a fledgling relationship with my ISP. I am in a mature relationship, where they will absorb the knock if I pay a day late, and I will be patient with them when they inform me that work is to be done on the other side of The Dark Continent. How can you talk about a little goodwill??

If you think our telecomms industry is behind the 1st world because of my attitude... The next time you come to Cape Town, take a good look at those kilometres of shacks next to the airport. You know, where the dudes live without running water, tarred roads, flush toilets, rubbish removal, and 8MB ADSL connections. Maybe you can see similar shacks and shanty towns where you live.

Then ask yourself: If you were King for just one day, what would your priorities be?

What is UNIX? Is it related to MULTIVAC in some way?

Dude, you said your bit, and have been ridiculed, and now please... enough.

Plazma, I'm reading it, but I'm finding it hard to understand your logic.

Every single commercial entity in this country, hell.. in this world, has only ONE priority and that is to turn a profit. I don't know of any ISP's who exist just so that you and I can have internet.

Let me put it to you another way: if you are an MNET subscriber and you have paid for a full month's subscription, but halfway through the month MNET's transmitter blows up because Jabu or Kobus forgot to switch off the flux capacitor, would you be happy to continue paying them for the subscription you no longer have access to, or would you look to another supplier for entertainment?

BTW, "ridiculed"? Are you serious?

And please don't tell me when enough is enough. That is very childish.

Typically SA BS this thread.

Pixual if DSTV's satellite up in space exploded and it was going to take them 1 week to get a new one in orbit why would we complain? You are acting like a crying little baby. My advice stop using seacom, you deserve better than cheap uncapped dude. Good on ya!!!!!!! go pay saix 80 bucks a gb rather.

doob, pull your head out of the zol cloud and read the thread properly. You're clearly missing the entire point.

Seacom has made internet in this country so affordable only the really ungrateful bottom feeders would ever make a post like yours.

I thought seacom would fail us due to SA being nothing but a country to rip off it's citizen's but they have proven me wrong and given me uncapped 4 meg for 899 through mweb. So i am just happy to have really good cheap internet and yes they are having problems but i pulled 85gb this month so i am not worried at all about 1 week down or whatever the case may.

Nothing worse in my opinion than ungrateful people.

FFS, some of the members of this forum are insanely dense. Did any of you actually pass high school? I am not blaming the ISP's for the problem. I am SUGGESTING that they should be putting pressure on their suppliers to compensate their customers for the inconvenience caused by this fiasco. One possible solution would be to allow any unused bandwidth that was paid for to roll over to the next month. Doing that will help repair the damaged image that I am sure IS/Seacom are blushing about right now. It won't cost them anything. They will not lose revenue by offering this small token, but by ignoring it all they're doing is throwing salt on the wound.

Is that so hard for you all to understand? Do you have to resort to ad hominem attacks when somebody has an opinion that differs from your own?

Why don't you post a complaint with ICASA, the BCCSA and call Seacom ceo and demand he treats his clients better.

Dude saix is still working 100%, why not cancel your current account/s and move back to them and pay through your arse. Would you be willing to do that as a token of how much you dislike this problem?

Dooooooooooo ittttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why exactly should the ISPs suppliers now be responsible for the ISPs clients little hissy fit?

You have an SLA with your ISP, they have an SLA with their supplier... I can guarantee you that none of what is going on with Seacom at this current point in time is outside of any of the SLA's.

The ISPs will not lose revenue at all.... except from clients like yourself who throw hissy fits about everything... but you will more than likely constantly be moving ISPs because they'll all do something little that gets on your nerves so you are ultimately NOT the kind of client they want.

There's a quaint saying where I come from....

Sh** happens.

Soon we will have two more cables, then there will be a minumum of four cables servicing the country, one larger than all the cables combined and we will have the redunduncy that we need. It's not here yet and theres nothing that can be done until they are. Some ISP's provided their customers with slightly degraded service but stilll access to international sites and services while others have not. Complain to your ISP regarding the redunduncy of your connection but as has already been said, " it costs money".

Jamaica mun. Why what does this have to do with you being ungrateful?

Yes, exactly what does killa's ethnicity have to do with this?
