How the WITS student voting will work

Attending Wits shouldn't be limited to people who can afford it. The only thing students should feel privileged about is that they were accepted on merit. It shouldn't have anything to do with money.

+1. This. Though it shouldn't be limited to just Wits. This should be a universal thing.

I don't take anything for granted.

It is not limited to those who can afford it. NSFAS enables many students who could never afford the studies to go to Wits (and all other Universities), and student loans enable most of the rest.

This is an interesting thread.
I get Sammys need to express himself.
But I'd say life isn't perfect, neither are you.

It's the Sammys of the world that are bright people, and there are lots of them.
They are good at being critical and tearing things down that aren't right in their eyes.

The sad thing is anyone can destroy and break down things.
It takes no skill.

What is needed is that this immaturity and childish behaviour is channeled into building something constructive.

This will be the game changer.
Otherwise, Sammy dear.
You are just blowing hot air.
Create and build something that we can admire and go wow at.

Do it, young man. I'm sure you can.

So what makes you think this meeting won't be disrupted or people intimidated?

Why would anyone disrupt a gathering where they're meant to express their views.

Isn't it night time now?

Post 23:00 bro. That's when people go to sleep. I don't like hearing the toilet flush or people having the odd conversation as they pass my door, or my neighbour and his friend having a conversation loud enough for the entire corridor to hear while I'm studying.

Who TF do you think pays for this "free" education?

Edit: At the end of the day, it's all about money. Why are you studying in the first place then?

That was discussed in the old thread.

Why when must I explain to you why you are privileged?

Agree, loans should be available to all worthy students.

Because not taking anything for granted doesn't necessarily mean you're privileged in any way.

As for loans, those were also discussed in the old thread. Chaining the up and coming middle class to debt, is not the way to eradicate poverty. Come on guys, we can't repeat that thread.

Of course. Just used Wits because that's where I and of course the thread title.

Again with student loans. Missing middle?

I explained to you that we can have a partnership between the banks and the government to ensure everybody can have access to loans.

Maybe one day, when we are a developed country, we can think about free education. At the moment we are still a developing country with much more important priorities.

The solution Sammy is looking for is simple. It's the same as Zumas and Mugabes.
Let's spend everything we have and lend as much as possible from wherever we can, ie the UN, Workd Bank etc.
We get what we want now and our offspring are slaves to the whites in Europe that lend the money.
That's always been the answer.
If you are born in Zimbabwe now your share of national debt is $20 000. Ah I can see the smile on Zuma and Sammy and Mugabes faces now.
Idiotic and simpleminded leaders ruining and destroying the future of its own people by wilfully making bad decisions to suit their egos.

But that's not Sammy worry.

Africans are sincere, really they are but sincerely wrong.
Making slaves of your people is wrong and pathetic but it's an African tradition that Sammy wants to perpetuate.

Free higher education will ensure that a lot of our problems sort themselves out. Like poverty for example. Which will sort out housing problem and everything that goes with it like sanitation etc.

Major fail. Try again. Troll harder this time.

What is wrong with a damn loan?

Heavy debt burden to start off. Some people can't obtain loans etc.

You have to #paybackthemoney

The graduate tax discussed in the other thread is basically paying back the money except its in much smaller amounts.

This is a fallacy. Kindly show me any credible study which backup your assertion.

SammyD does seem to live in lala land. Money for free education comes from somewhere...

Wtf should you get free education when I had to pay my debt back? So after getting your degree you also expect to get free courses from private institutions, certs etc?

What are you studying btw?
