How to get a gf

Ha! I laugh at the people who put up their relationship status on Facebook...when it all goes wrong, everyone knows. Then again the modern world is obsessed with the 'image' of a person

LoL yeah. Especially when it's on, of, on and off again :D

I met my previous gf in a private school!

I laugh at people with Facebook!

Yeah but basically the thing is, I don't really like clubs (and yes I have been to them like 5 times..so I have *experienced* them) so there's no *real* opportunity for me to meet girls...

Facebook is a good marketing tool  although I'm really thinking of disabling it now because one of my friends has somehow got hold of a story that I have a gf (which is unfortunately a lie) and is telling everyone on their walls. Now when I get back from holidays, I'll have like 50 people questioning me about this 'supposed relationship'. I'm just thanking my lucky stars that the girl involved is not a friend of this person on Facebook because then it'd be lights out for me with this girl...:o

Try something like OkCupid or dating sites, not to meet girls but to make friends.

Don't give the opinon you're hunting, because that scares off...

But the main aim boet is to start with friendship, no pressure.

Facebook has it's place, and you can certainly use it to score chics better than at a club. First of all her walls of defence will be up in a club and secondly you can't hear each other so what's the point? And if a girl does hook up with you at a club without even being able to hear each other, then you should seriously consider why she's being so easy. Personally it's not something I want to find out, don't want my jewels falling off the next day!

I am also not the dancing type, that means there is only a handful of places to go to, and yes, it is a disadvantage. But there are nice and hot girls that don't like dancing, I think, I hope!

Use whatever medium you want, make friends, chat, keep the chat going, meet up... become friends... then see what happens.

Why, do you actually like the girl? The best way to meet people is through friends, that way you already probably have something in common and you have a certain amount of automatic credibility with them.

Yes, but that also has its draw backs, like, if you 2 break up, friends dont like friends because this side took that side etc.

The big problem is, all of my friends (most also engineers) are also single, and between the lot of us, we don't know that much girls, not more than 10, I know, we are a sad sad lot!
I am not really into the internet medium, rather go out and chat to some one face to face, or am I being to old school? Are the girls that are on dating sites actually very nice? But why are they then not taken?

So thats why you bring a outsider in, someone you have your seperate friends... dating sites and meeting someone on facebook who has NO MUTUAL friends is a great thing ;)

My question to all the guys are, how do you approach a girl?

On foot usually works but if you marry her prepare to spend the rest of your life on your knees.

What do you do to get them interested in you?

Show her your stamp collection :D

Yes, I do like the girl - I wish she was my gf but at the moment she is not. Um - good thing about the friends part but most are similar to me...not really into clubs so when we do socialize, it's just us. As I said, probably I'll have to wait for uni. At least StellenboschStudent has that luxury.

Stellenboschman: True. The only other 'outlet' that I've seen where there is a high % of relationships is the very religious people at our school. You know the ones who go on those "religious camps" and sing and dance about God like a bunch of raving lunatics. Now most of these serious religious types are quite nice people (down-to-earth) and are 'genuine' people but I don't I could stand their militaristic approach to defending God. That's not a joke btw - I went to one of their events and replace "Heil Hitler" with "Heil God" and you get the point.

What good South African dating sites are there? Not a fan of facebook, not even to get a gf!

That is always the other option, meet girls at church, but then somday I will have to confess that I only went to church to meet girls, and I don't think that will end well!

Its definitely a much better environment at uni, more relaxed.

I'd also stay far away from those people, don't think being in a relationship with them could be much fun either.

Only if you're going to marry her, otherwise why not? At least when you're done with her you won't have to worry about her killing herself, because she's too scared of being sent to hell!

Well, my last attempt ( girls can judge it a bad or a good one)

In gym, had a few glances and smiles before, walked up, started a simple conversation for a while, at end gave her a compliment of being a very beautiful women and asked if she would like to get coffee sometime. Replied, we'll talk about it...

Well, it didnt end well. Lol, she was taken already!!!! But ye, thats what I tried. Perhaps too forceful on the compliment

That is the whole problem! Why must there be these unwritten rules? Why can't you just say your mind, and get on with it?

My guess is it's part of the natural selection process. Every guy wants to shag, but since she holds the sexual power she'll only hand herself over to the guy who differentiates himself from the rest. Handing out compliments will not help your cause since the chances are she's heard the same thing from many guys before you.
