How to install Windows 10 - A guide

If anyone else is stuck waiting for the upgrade, you can use the tool on their website.

It didn't work straight for me, the tool just said "Something happened" and stopped. I got around that by going to Control Panel - Region - Administrative - Change system locale and changing it to English (United States).

It's downloading now, but painfully slowly.
Thanks Orbital, got the error then changed the locale setting and presto, Windows 10 downloading.

I reserved my copy (free upgrade from Win 7) but I haven't received any notice to download it yet. Anyone else with the same problem?

When I click on Confirmation I get a message saying that my Upgrade is Reserved!
There's nothing you need to do right now. You'll get a notification on your PC when Win10 is ready to install.

Yes... See a few posts up. Although I did it with Windows 8.1, not 7.

Have heard this is a solution for many people, Microsoft what a bunch of ballbags, you need a MSC systems builder masters degree with telephonic support directly to Redmond HQ just to do an upgrade. bunch of twats.

Had a similar issue with Windows 8 upgrade, download the iso and then it says error wrong language can't install. Had changed the system language to EnUK English but the Iso was EnUS, getting round that was a nightmare, had to do all kinds of registry hacking and fiddling to finally get the install to move past that error, changing the system language didn't help in that instance because the language was written as some code in the system files which the installer kept picking up, had to go change them all. Fecking hell, getting me worked thinking about that ridiculous episode.

I am a little peeved that my 95 year-old father, who lives in the UK, has already received the update to Win 10.

His laptop was running 8.1 and now Win 10. He had no problems, and all seemed to go smoothly.

I spend hours on Skype with him, several times a week, trying to explain how to do simple things like creating a folder, or attaching a file to an email.

And here he is now, with an upgraded OS, with me stuck on Win 8.1.

I reserved the Win8 update, but so far no sign of it being downloaded. I am wondering if US & European countries get it first, with SA getting it much later?
Doubt it as I got mine the day before the release, I also did reserve the first time the icon showed up.

Looks like the files have downloaded.. about 6.5gb in the windows.bt folder.... but still no prompt to upgrade. Files downloaded yesterday morning already.. not sure what's up :/

Did you download the iso?
That's about the size for the 32 and 64 bit iso download when do them together.

If I made iso from files on single language home edition can it be used to upgrade win 7 home premium?

Ok so my windows finally upgraded without a hitch and all activated ... Saw the notification come up that said windows 10 was ready ... Clicked on it and smooth sailing after. Guess my impatience to try and "skip the queue" caused more headaches than anything.

Just do a manual windows update ... it finds Win10 as an update ... also smaller in size than the iso (obviously dependent on what other updates are already installed)
