How to purchase data bundle through USSD?

Can anyone tell me how to buy a once off data bundle on MTN pre-paid through the USSD system please?

I tried doing this previously, but somehow ended up with a data bundle that wants to automatically renew itself every 30 days.
Secondly, how do I cancel one of these automatically renewing data bundles?
What if there is insufficient airtime, will it be cancelled, or will MTN try another day?

AFAIK you cannot get once off bundles - you have to cancel the current one before the end of the 30 days. Best is to not have enough funds in the account...

Just did a check on mine - (did not have enough funds for a new bundle when the old one expired) and the system says I am not subscribing to any bundles "Our records do not show any data bundles that you need to cancel" - so it appears that your bundle gets cancelled if it cannot renew.

I buy once off bundles all the time, although I phone 555.

I think if you check the OP he was querying the purchase of a once off bundle - no USSD codes there for that.

Thanks for the info adl3g. I think MTN should rethink their pre-paid data bundle system, it's almost as if they went out of their way to make it inconvenient.

Best is to not have enough funds in the account...
