How was your divorce?

Short summary of how divorces go for guys:

- Kids involved: Decades of mental and financial torture
- Spouse not employed: Decades of less intense mental and financial torture
- No kids and spouse not dependent on your income: Some admin and inconvenience

Weddings are tragic and sad for men so I do not attend them anymore.

My divorce from my ex-wife was pretty straight forward, we had a prenup so there was just some communication around who gets what household stuff and I wanted my grandmothers engagement diamond back as it was a family heirloom so bought a new 'replacement' diamond. Other than that, there was no property, no kids, no pets, etc. so since I 'called it' I paid a lawyer to draw everything up, organise an advocate, get a date in high court, etc. to get it done and dusted. My ex-wife signed the paperwork but was otherwise not involved in the process at all which mirrored her disinterest in trying to reconcile, participate in counselling, show any interest in making the marriage work, etc. As for the journey to get to the point where I called her up and said that I want a divorce, that is a whole other story...

As for me, I am happily remarried, a house, two sons, a dog, three goldfish, a 'new' rescue cat, etc. with the most amazing, understanding, supportive wife who puts up with my **** of which there can be a lot. I honestly have no idea how I got so lucky the second time around and hope that I do at least enough that my wife wants to stick around to see what the future brings for us.

I had to go and check now. I keep forgetting my wedding date. Even tho I have it tattooed on my arm ffs. Hahahaha.
My divorce was signed, done, and dusted in court a couple of days shy of 3 years of marriage.

Get yourself a divorce gift.

I was lucky enough to pick up a very low-mileage 2018 LCI BMW M2 with an AC Schnitzer exhaust in Long Beach blue the week before my court date.
When it came to invoicing the dealer told me I got a black Friday discount as well and bumped another R50k off the price. My fok I could not believe.
Anyway, I drove with it to court, and did my thing, she did not have to be present. She was also not aware of the court date.

Afterwards, I drove straight to her house with my new gift to myself for putting up with your kak for so long and finally making the right choice for my future. She opened the garage door and I stood there in my new suit. I even went and bought one. And I told her you are now divorced, I just came from the courthouse.

She was like uhm ahh uhmm what about the papers, I said what papers, everything is done. Finish en klaar.

And I got in the car and sped away, pops and bangs all around. Twass goooood feeels.

I remember more of that day than my wedding day. Says a lot.

I window shop everyday. I just dont buy or enquire. Take a glance or two and move on about my day.

A married colleague once said he never checks out any women, I just looked at him thinking, djy praat nou kak.

Marroiage is definitley not for majority of the people.

I would not advise any young man to get married.
Which 'product' in the window shopping would that be?

This is what I hope to see:

I am not divorced, no comment on relationship, but I endorse the "gift". For me it would be sell everything, invest with some income, (out of harms way) buy an adventure bike or 4x4, make sure passport had a few years validity and fork off. Emotional wellbeing.

Now weddings make me want to kots.

I am not anti-marriage. I just never want to do that again. No thank youuuu.

I have all the respect for couples whose shiit is in order and are happily married. Great for you. Excellent.

marriage is hard work

add kids and it becomes harder

some work on it some dont ...thats marriage

only difference with marriage and long term relationships is marriages come with paperwork when **** hits the fan

Got divorced, we have 1 kid, was 2 at the time.
Fell apart predominantly due to communication and prioritization. We both were career focused, the kid came, didnt put time into each other and instead become two people who work according to a schedule and raise a kid. She had pretty bad depression and I had a heart attack from work stress, it was a total mess.
We each became resentful and it got a bit bitter, eventually collapsing. Without a doubt it could have been saved, I am not sure if it should have.
I cant actually recall the custody initially, it was split 50/50 but not one week on one off, as she got a bit older we went 1 week on /off.

Divorce was amicable, oddly enough we communicated better once the proceedings started. We all eventually emigrated to the UK (with different partners), remained friends and worked out ok.

As a side note, the actual divorce feelings and emotions took a while to really sink in, a few months maybe, and was incredibly difficult at times.

Which is why I'm avoiding both marriage and kids. Gotta get your last paragraph into my current gf's head.
