HTC DESIRE HD

You're one of the lucky ones. Most of us don't have the Route 66 trial installed on our phones and have to wait till it's commercially available :-(

I thought all the Desire HDs comes preinstalled with the full version of Route66 Navigation? Licence valid for 30 days and R270 for lifetime licence. No?

Got my phone from eMpTyN, but it's sporting a Vodacon sim since day 1. :)

Not on my watch, nada!

I have playing around with another custom ROM ... MIUI ...

For those who are interested ...

It is a chinese ROM with an English pack ...

It is based on Gingerbread ... :) which is why I tried it ...
The graphics are brilliant ... moving between screens is smooth as silk.
You can change the way the screens appear when you swipe between them ... 3D-cube, page, cross fade ... a couple of options here ...
They have done a couple of things differently though ...

First off it looks like an iPhone /ducks :) ... same square icons and a very distinct lack of widgets.
It has no app draw ... so it installs new apps to a screen so if you long hold an icon, a trash can pops up and you can immediately uninstall it.

You can add screens on the fly ... this is brilliant ...
When you pinch a screen, it shows you all the screens and a blank one with a plus so you can add ... I added 27 screens before I got bored ...

Overall it is a very polished ROM ...

Also been using MIUI for just over 2 weeks now, its fast, sleek and looks great. I played around with themes, mine no longer looks like an Iphone.
Anyway, get about 3 to 4 days out of battery now. And I use it a lot.

I miss the widgets though .... :(

I also get better battery life out of this ROM about 3 days ...
Max1,5 days with the stock ROM ...
My phone works hard so the battery doesn't last long ...

What widgets you talkin 'bout? I use Pure Grid Calendar for caledar widget and have a clock/weather widget (Beautiful Widgets) thats very close to HTC's one....animations and everything.

What's with the iPhone-inspired wallpapers? :p

@xrapidx, Extended control.
@Kingrob, I never owned a iphone(and never want to), so don't really know what the home screen or wallpaper looks like. I am just playing around with the themes on MIUI....sorry to dissapoint. To tell the truth, I never wanted to play around with roms, I was very happy with stock just as it was. But I saw a colleague with this rom and after he told me what his battery life was, I was intrigued and curious.

So you've never paid Apple tax in your life....very proud of you. :)

Check out this Leedroid ROM

It runs Gingerbread with official Sence 2.1

Played with the Beta version a couple of weeks back and that was very temperamental and glitchy.
Installed it yesterday and it looks a lot more stable ...

UI has some nice additions ...
When you plugin to a USB port, the options have some nice graphics.
The notification pulldown bar has an additional tab for all your radio settings etc.
The default weather app now comes with sound ... :p

Gingerbread has built in SIP settings which are simple to setup and work perfectly
(There is a warning about reduced battery life though)

Looks very very nice ... I wonder when this will release officially in SA.

Never... Leaf are useless, this has been proven countless of times...

I recon its time to flash mine - anyone have a decent dummies guide? Did my WM phone quite a few times.... but this will be my first Android phone.

Accidental rejection of calls

I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this problem. I am not using any case for my cell so it is in my pocket most of the time. Now when I recieve calls and I take my cell out I always accidentally reject calls and this is very frustrating. I'm not sure if it is the sensitivity with HTC Desire HD or maybe there's settings I need to do. I've been reading some forums on Androids sites and apparently one needs to install some lock app to get around this problem.

Anybody with a solution to this?

I have had exactly the same issue ... I usually have my phone in my back pocket ... and pulling it out rejects the call ...
My solution is to turn the phone around ... :)
Now I accidentally answer it instead of rejecting it ...
