More RAM
More & Better apps
HTC Sense (when it works)
Better customizability
Better build Quality

If you want a phone for music and camera, get the N8

Any other reason, go for the DHD
 
I'm happy to report that my Sennheiser MM50 earbuds (with integrated microphone + button for answering calls), that I bought 2 years ago for my iPhone 3g, works perfectly with my Desire HD.

The sound quality is simply insane & things are just getting better & better with this phone. Agree with Shads, this phone just zips through any app/game/whatever - it's faaasssttt!

Symbian is on its way out. The N8 is somewhat of a last hurrah for the OS as future Nokia smartphones will run a new *NIX-based operating system. BBs are decent enough if you either need enterprise-level mail on the go, or you do a lot of web browsing on your phone, what with BIS and BES. In every other regard the handsets cannot even come close to competing with what else is out there.

As for WinPhone 7 I'm just not wholly convinced as yet. It's still in its absolute infancy & whilst it might well prove to be a force to be reckoned with down the line, I'm not about to be an unpaid beta-tester for MS. :p

If you are already sold on the screen size and Android then the other things that might apply is firstly the hardware, it is just so well designed in terms of its form and function; it takes a minimalistic approach, which I prefer. Everything is just so well thought of and practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. The size of the phone actually works for it. I was a bit worried about the size initially until I played with an HD2 which is similar in size and weight and I was sold. After getting the phone I am now even more convinced as the weight and size helps me from a conscious point of view that I need to handle it with more assertiveness and awareness so as not to damage it or drop the device (Which I am prone to do with my previous phone an iPod) I treat it like a hand held computer or even a mini tablet/iPad thing which is what it is in essence, this is what really gives it its value from my own personal experience with it. I now use it for music instead of my iPod, so that I don’t have to carry two gadgets around anymore. I also don’t feel the need to use my 10 megapixel still camera or my Sony handy cam. By no means does this phone replace all high end cameras or the like but it is a serious enough device to replace all those devices from a casual interest perspective. It is what the iPad should have been. I see it more as a universal tool, communications and entertainment device than just a phone. Heck I can now VPN into work if I need to from almost anywhere without my laptop. The size of the screen really makes a big difference in every function.

Just installed Angry Birds ..... and now I can't stop playing the bloody game! :(

*Runs silky smooth on the Desire HD & a lot of fun to play!
 
So...this thread is long...any recommended apps? I get mine tomorrow... I hope.

Does this phone have any issues with dead/hot pixels? Should I check in store?

You'll be able to find all your iPhone apps at the Android Market. Some of them are even better, like Facebook. Very nice that it shows new pics as a stream at the bottom. Me likes.

The rest....oh crap.....we might have to start a new thread for cool apps, cos a lot of people have posted lists, but it's scattered all over the place.

Got mine last week. Can't take my hands off it. Wife getting jealous of the phone. Very happy so far.

I finally got my DHD yesterday form vodacom. I love it, ....

I just installed the telmap 5 navigation. It worked well on my gfs Blackberry and it works for android as well, and its for free. It's from the company which does the satnav for vodacom. The beta of the newer version is free to download from here: http://global.telmap.com/tugpcbeta/default.asp
Just register and follow the steps. I think it does not save maps, but I have a 1 gig data bundle so I don't care too much about these few megs. I don't think it uses lots of data anyway.

Okay stuff I wanna know:

1. How do you download the app market stuff on your PC ?
2. When you download apps on your cell where do the .apk file go ? (I wanna backup just my .apk files to PC or maybe copy from PC to another cell via USB)
3. How do you share, send or copy apps to another cell (not just send the link to an app - I want the whole app sent). I know about e.g. "bump" but that just sends you the link to download!

Cape Town ... I was on their case for the last 2 moths. should have gotten it already a week earlier, but my phone was sent to Secunda instead of to Cape Town ??? :-(
Anyway now I have it. It was an upgrade, but they did something funny to get me the phone now. They told me its not available for upgrades/renewing contacts, so they gave me a nokia for R200 and the dhd as a "free Goodie"
