How did you guys go about charging and using your phone for the first time?

Nope. And not any on my iPhone 3G that's been going for 2 years & 2 months without a screen protector.

good to know - I've ordered one... but don't want the screen to scratch...I'm kinda anal about that Wonder what I can get for my Tytn II

My Desire is now about 6 months old & apart from giving it a dedicated pants pocket when out and about I haven't done anything special. Its screen is still pristine.

Very important and a great tip! Never put your car keys in the same jeans pocket as your Desire HD!!

How did you guys go about charging and using your phone for the first time?

When you take the plastic off the new battery (and struggle your ass off to get the battery cover on again ) and switch the phone on, it should just have enough juice to copy your contacts from your old phone before it dies. Let it run completely flat (till it switches itself off) and then charge it. You'll see an orange LED light when the phone is charging and it turns green when its done.

Use it till it runs completely flat again, then charge it again. Do it for the first four times, after that you can just charge it randomly and let it run completely flat once a month.

I'm now on my fifth charge, the phone has been on since 8am this morning and still on 8 of the 10 bars. Been on the net, Facebooking, Friendstream to check twitter, emailing, etc.

Well I plugged it in... damn thing went flat - at work so lets hope it finishes before I go home in 2 hours... Otherwise I have a mini USB charger in the car... looks like a mini USB port.... hopefully it is.

Should be ok, as long as you give it a few "full" charges later.

Symbian is on its way out. The N8 is somewhat of a last hurrah for the OS as future Nokia smartphones will run a new *NIX-based operating system. BBs are decent enough if you either need enterprise-level mail on the go, or you do a lot of web browsing on your phone, what with BIS and BES. In every other regard the handsets cannot even come close to competing with what else is out there.

As for WinPhone 7 I'm just not wholly convinced as yet. It's still in its absolute infancy & whilst it might well prove to be a force to be reckoned with down the line, I'm not about to be an unpaid beta-tester for MS.

Faster processor
More RAM
More & Better apps
HTC Sense (when it works)
Better customizability
Better build Quality

If you want a phone for music and camera, get the N8

Any other reason, go for the DHD

If you are already sold on the screen size and Android then the other things that might apply is firstly the hardware, it is just so well designed in terms of its form and function; it takes a minimalistic approach, which I prefer. Everything is just so well thought of and practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. The size of the phone actually works for it. I was a bit worried about the size initially until I played with an HD2 which is similar in size and weight and I was sold. After getting the phone I am now even more convinced as the weight and size helps me from a conscious point of view that I need to handle it with more assertiveness and awareness so as not to damage it or drop the device (Which I am prone to do with my previous phone an iPod) I treat it like a hand held computer or even a mini tablet/iPad thing which is what it is in essence, this is what really gives it its value from my own personal experience with it. I now use it for music instead of my iPod, so that I don’t have to carry two gadgets around anymore. I also don’t feel the need to use my 10 megapixel still camera or my Sony handy cam. By no means does this phone replace all high end cameras or the like but it is a serious enough device to replace all those devices from a casual interest perspective. It is what the iPad should have been. I see it more as a universal tool, communications and entertainment device than just a phone. Heck I can now VPN into work if I need to from almost anywhere without my laptop. The size of the screen really makes a big difference in every function.

Same here, I don't want to spoil the aesthetics of the phone. Just be careful and it will be fine.

My friend’s HD2 that he has had for six months now is still perfect without any blemishes or scratches.

Pleasure mate. Well I hope you get whatever you are looking for out of the N8. I just don’t think I can ever go back to anything that isn’t Android, and well, 4.3 inches of perfection.

You simply can't compare the Desire HD with the Nokia N8. End of story.

The Nokia runs the ancient Symbian OS while the Desire HD runs on Android 2.2 - no comparison.

Hardware wise....well, let's just say if it wasn't for the Nokia's camera, you simply could not compare the two. The Nokia hardware specs are those of a midrange phone.

Ok, and that's enough of midrange Nokia phones.

I am now a proud owner of the HTC Desire HD. Got it just over an hour ago. I compromised the Blackberry Torch with BIS for the sake of seeing what all this runcuss are about. It looks great from first impressions. I still have to configure the beast. So I am not sorry at all I stumbled in here yesterday.

It looks great from first impressions. I still have to configure the beast. So I am not sorry at all I stumbled in here yesterday.

I am getting the same thing. It is telling me that it is switched off and says I need to enable it. I have it enabled though...

yep same thing i mailed them again hopefully this time they help me trblshoot the thing instead of
tellin me they have server errors ... bleh really want this 2 wrk ... 1 of the main reasons i got the DHD
