HTC DESIRE HD

anybody else had this problem? Phone's vibrate seems wonky.. phone makes a big noise wen it has to vibrate or wen it rings, sounds like speaker or whatever makes it vibrate is on steroids. thinking it may be a physical fault. booking into vodacom could take ages..ugh.

Mine has started rebooting at random.. ever now and then I hear the startup tone.

xrapidx, I'm glad to have found at least one other person who has the same problem. A web search seems to indicate that this is more of a "common" issue thatnone would think. I use the word common loosely because while it isn't prevalent, but it does seem to be an issue that more than one or two people have complained about.

Mine just restarts randomly for no reason at all. It seems to be associated with a loose connection near the bottom of the phone (possibly around the Sim card Bay or the battery compartment) because any amount of pressure around that area results in the restart. Sometimes the restart will happen 3, 4, 5 times in a row, even before the HTC startup sound plays. To call it irritating is an understatement to say the least. I love the phone and everything it allows me to do, my wife has an iPhone4 and quite honestly there's no comparison, but having the damn thing randomly restart 20 times a day just spoils it, and it grates me that yet again the apple crowd seem to have a point with their boring product being more reliable.

Problem is that I don't have access to a standby phone at this stage, so I can't take it in just yet to be repaired, and I'm not in a position to be without a phone for the anticipated 2 months it'll take the various parties to take it in and sort it out.

Anyone else had the problem? Were you able to get it repaired? Would you suggest going straight to Leaf to hand it in, or do I need to go through my service provider?

Mines not that bad... actually - it hasn't done it in ages... and its funny you mention a loose connection at the bottom, because about a month ago I removed the bottom cover to do something....and it hasn't done it since (that I know of), not sure if its related.

Same here, but I must add that I have only opened my phone's back cover once - it was 5 months ago and just to insert the sim card.

I'll be changing devices... IPhone 4 to most probably DHD or E7, Odds are very high for the DHD.

I'll also be new to the Android OS... What can I expect from DHD & Droid Platform coming from IOS

The first thing will be most liberating : you don't have to plug your Android phone into your pc to register with iTunes before you can make a phone call. :)

The best thing would be that you can get rid of the annoying iTunes.

You don't have to take out your credit card with Android.

The HTC Desire HD is the best phone I've ever owned - and I have had a lot, including an iPhone.

That should ease your expectations. ;)

I see the updates are rolling out in Europe. Wonder when we will be getting ours.

I sent HTC an email regarding this, and this was their response,

"In regards to your enquiry kindly be informed that unfortunately we cannot confirm when Android 2.3 Upgrade will be available for HTC Desire HD in South Africa; however please keep an eye on our website for any latest updates."

I decided that I'm not going to wait, so I rooted my phone and flashed LeeDrOiD's GB ROM. It's running smoothly on my DHD, and from what I've read I will get better battery life as well.

I seriously can't wait until the end of the year to get my next upgrade to get rid of my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic [:(]. I'd love an HTC Desire HD right now [:D], but the HTC Sensation looks like it'll be the one to get later in the year.

Please note that your battery life is going to suck for at least the first month .... cos you are not going to be able to put the phone down ..
And don't forget that syncing over 3G costs a pretty penny if you are not careful ... :)

Be careful with this ROM ... I flashed with the Leedroid recommended radio and that broke my wifi ... and my GPS was iffy ...
I flashed to an older radio this morning and wifi and GPS are working fine again ...

True, still can't put it down. Especially after I installed kindle a week and a half ago. (It's getting colder in the evenings, so early in bed with the DHD...hehe)
Regarding the syncing costing a penny, true as well. I downloaded a few games and apps over 3G, updated the aps etc... first month I had to buy 600MB, 3 times. Now i'm a little more carefull.

Maybe we should get HTC to print a warning on the box ...
Contents maybe addictive and/or expensive ... :)
