HTC DESIRE HD

I've tried it out twice. It's nice and smooth, but I can't handle the Sense stuff anymore. So, it wasn't on my phone for longer than a few hours.

Official ROM peeps, remember to post here once you are able to upgrade to ICS through FOTA.

We are suppose to get the upgrade between this month and August.

I dropped my Desire HD :( screen cracked, like half the screen is cracked to ****. Not the LCD screen at all, just the plastic that covers the screen, any place that I can go to fix it? capacitive touch seems to still work 100% even over the cracked parts of the screen (did some prelim tests using finger painting apps ;P) anyways can I fix this for less than like R600?

If I can't get this fixed I might just go for the Galaxy Nexus, just because I'm sick of getting updates 1 year after a major update.

No!!!!! :(

Happened to me last year, was incredibly sad for a whole month.

In fact, I missed it so much that I got myself a Wildfire S for my Sense addiction. :)

My contract is up for upgrade in October, so i might just use my spare Windows Phone (Samsung Focus Flash) :( let me tell you, I dont like WP7 but its the only spare device I have that has whatsapp and a decent browser

Pity that R800 8ta special for a Desire S ended so fast.

So I'm trying to download apps from the google store and all it's doing is hanging on 'waiting for network'... The internet passthrough (don't have wifi yet) is working because I can access the net from the browsers etc, but just cannot update any existing apps or download new ones from play store.

Funny, I can access the store, just cannot download/update anything!!!!

Is this phone problem, computer problem, vodacom (forgot to mention I'm with them) problem? So freaking irritating!!!!

LOL Exactly the same as my old Desire UK edition as well :)

Hmmmm I see a pattern, or maybe not as my Xperia Play from the UK is humming along no worries.

Well in any case good luck, I just dumped my old Desire in the dustbin as I knew our SP's would have told me to get lost, well it wasn't worth the effort in any case. Besides I had my Desire HD at that time as my primary phone.

Ok so after quite a schlepp I managed to get my phone rooted and punch it in the face with the latest MIUI Rom.

Issues resolved by upgrade:
battery now lasts about 1.5 days
random reboots
contact corruption

Issues not resolved:
Random signal loss

Going to see what else I can do to try and make my phone stable and reliable till my upgrade in Jan....

Now to go find that post where that "box" was irritating me with his pure speculation about the Desire HD ICS updates that got cancelled.

Well at least your phone is not rebooting all the time :)
I still think its a hardware issue and needs to be taken in for repair, software not gonna fix it.

As for the battery life, I am kinda pissed off at the latest updated and planning on rolling back. My battery now also only last 1.5 days, I know for you 1.5 seems like better for what I had its crap.

Oh it's definitely hardware. Had it checked. Needs new board. Not going to do that, it's actually cheaper to buy a new phone. I think the ICS MIUI rom is just most resilient hence the no rebooting all the time. I just want to breath enough life into it to carry me to Jan. Then I will leave HTC behind and try the SGSIII. For now I will be hunting for ROMS that can improve my battery life even more (and maintain my current stability) and possibly improve the issues with the dropping signal.

That's the first thing I did when I read about this problem.

I think getting a Nexus or iPhone would be a better option.
Nexsus ftw no Idea how when you can get it in SA, Samsung build quality is iffy but S3 is nice .Apple not a chance . Although I will miss sense I think I am one of the few that enjoy the interface.

The HTC Desire HD is a brilliant phone, with or without Ice Cream Sandwich.

My Wildfire S runs Gingerbread 2.3.5 & it's rock-solid, fast and a joy to use.

If you want to see ICS on your phone, download Go Launcher Ex and install the ICS theme and locker. Sorted.

So HTC is not going to give us ICS - and I am finding my HD becoming snail slow, can anyone direct me...how do I root and does that get rid of all the Sense ?

no they not, time to root your device and install a custom rom
try virtous infinity. some say its very good
otherwise try cm7.2 and put go launcher and the ics theme and the phone will work really nicely
