Who else is waiting? It's been 3 weeks now and no ETA from Vodacom. Apparently the suppliers are running short of materials to make them ... :( Phoned Nashua and they said their ETA is the 20th, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Would it be stupid to get a Samsung Galaxy instead?
 
No it wont,i would have taken the Samsung in the 1st place anyway.
 
Go with the Samsung. The S-AMOLED screen is amazing. (Coming from a guy with an HTC Desire)
 
I placed my order on the 23rd of August, have since been in contact with LEAF International (suppliers to SA), Lab88, HTC SA and International, numerous vodacom stores and have been promised on almost all occasions that "next week" we will have stock. I have been informed by LEaf International that possible shipment was to arrive on 15th, have not yet confimred. Vodacom only started replying when I hellopetered the @$$-es, but still no joy. Vodacom have confirmed that there are over 2000 people from vodacom waiting for the Desire to arrive. My biggest fear is when the shipment does arrive, will there be enough stock to saturate demand???? I dont want to wait another month.........Leaf also said that there were people who have been waiting for 3 months!!! OMW....... but still, I will wait it out, I think it will be worth every minute.....
 
This is ridiculous - almost as bad as when I orderded my 5870. Waited 2-3 months for it. Sorta makes one loose interest. I must have downloaded about 10 roms in expectation already, but they're all outdated by now. F-ing shortage.

Be grateful, now you can get the htc desire hd. Looking at a Iphone 4 but I think it will be the desire hd.
 
Tis true wat you say Wag, but when? At this rate the Desire 3D will be released before I get my hands on the HD! :-)
 
You can't go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S. But the Desire HD is sure to be awesome when it's out as well. I say forget about the Desire, it's between the Desire HD and SGS now :)

Ah and I thought I was the only one! Damn. Problem is, I've already signed with Vodacom, and am now waiting for the phone. So I dont have the choice of another phone! Wonder if they allow you to change phones, considering I havnt got it yet...

I spoke to our business contact today and they offered me other phones, but there are none in the Desire / Galaxy class I'm interested in. They don't even have the Galaxy on their stock list yet. Here's an extract of what's on the stock list ...

Yeah, I'm also looking in the Galaxy/Desire range, but tired of waiting at the same time. I'll be highly annoyed if I dont get a Desire when the next shipment comes in.

Yip, you so right. Will wait till December for the Desire hd, using the HTC hd2 and love the big screen.

If you have the HD2 then just install Android on it, use Google to find out how. The Desire HD software will probably get ported to it as well. You can pretty much upgrade it to a Desire HD for free, although I suppose the specs will be slightly lower.
I don't have an HD2 so I don't know exactly how well this will work, but I think it's worth looking into.

You can phone 082 1959, tells you the status of your current order, and then gives the option to choose another phone.
 
Quick Update:

I spoke to guys at LEAF, the have confirmed that stock of the desire for vodacom has arrived over the weekend. But, this shipment only had 500 units.... and as per vodacom there are almost 2000 orders. not to fear as in the first week of October a second shipment is arriving with 1000 units which should hopefully saturate the back orders.... I hope so.... also distribution takes about 34 hours..vodacom MENLYN and Centurion, I hope you guys are sleeping with one eye open, cause im about to pounce.....again......this time im not leaving till I have my baby!!!
 
I've read up on the Desire HD and now I'd rather have one of those. Do you think it'll be available soon? How soon after the Desire was released was it available in SA? Just thinking that if I take the Desire now, I'll probably start hating it if I see people walking around with it's big brother a month down the line.
