HTC Desire Shortage

Received an SMS from vodacom now, "your customer order number U24#### has been invoiced, expect delivery shortly."

I hope its on its way, not to Vodacom, but to my address...............lol maybe all this excitement is for nothing?
 
Just got word that my Desire is available ... but I don't want it anymore. I want the HD. ARRRRGHHHH!!! What would you do? Wait another 2-3 months or take the Desire? Damnit, I want a phone!

Take the Desire. The HD is bordering on a tablet. :P It's also bigger and heavier, so if you want a phone, get the Desire ;)

Didnt get any news. Better phone my branch and check. Although I did get an SMS saying I need to upgrade. Found that a bit worrying.
 
So the Desire has arrived and is available, how long does it usually take them to deliver?

If I get it today still I will definitely submit a counter to my HIPeter complaint.....LOL.....

I know the feeling. Wish they would just surprise me, then I wont get my hopes up on the expected shipment days. And these posts arent helping either.
 
Ive been surfing looking for similar posts, and replies saying "oh I've received mine!!"............. wish there was a way of tracking the order, then we'd know if its been dispatched. Waiting sucks BiG TiMe
 
Just called my branch, Vodacom Head Office, and HTC Leaf. Pathetic what each one knows regarding the other. My branch has no idea when the next shipment comes in, Head Office doesnt know of any shipment from last week, but know of one next week. HTC Leaf confirm shipment last week for back orders and are expecting another shipment tomorrow. I dont know where to stand in this any more. Thought my order was a back order, but my Vodacom branch cant get my contract details unless I speak to the EXACT person I dealt with... who's not in the shop.
 
Ahhh stuff it! I've decided to the Desire instead of the HD. If I keep on waiting, newer phones will also be released and I'll want those. I can never win! Plus the HD's price looks to be about R1500 more expensive. I cannot afford to pay that and only use the phone for 2 years. I'm sure some roms will come out that'll at least allow me some of the HD's nicer items - like cached maps, HTCsense.com integration etc. Still ... frustrating decision.
 
If you phone Leaf again use the 460 8000, ask for Julian, he is in Distribution. I found that he knows what's going on.
 
I spoke to salesman and they say Vodacom order about 50 per batch..... f'ing 50. This is because "HTC does not sell that well". So stupid, they could make so much money if they realized the market for this phone.

This is all hearsay, I don't think this salesman knows what he's talking about... Leaf confirmed to me last week that the shipments they bring into the country contain 500 phones each time. I'm not sure whether these are divided between Vodacom and MTN, but 500 is considerably more than the 50 the salesman told you about.
 
I think the fact that sales people, and Vodacom overall don't know jack has been proven time-and-time-again in this sub-forum. When I spoke to Julian (LEAF) he told me that there were 500 units on the first shipment, the second shipment he said had to be increased due to the back orders, so it totals 1000 units. Vodacom told me that there were over almost/over 2000 people on back order with the Desire, when I told Julian that he sounded pretty amazed......

Service level agreements have clearly not been honoured, by Vodacom and LEAF/HTC who ever they want to be.

Funniest thing is that exactly the same thing has happened with Iphone 4G, sold out, people that preregistered were not notified, howcome Vodacom did not stop orders for the device / order a sufficient number of devices.

conclusion: Vodacom is useless......Totally

True, there seems to be no single version of the truth! Vodacom told me yesterday that my shipment from HTC has an ETA for early October, but this morning I also got the "Your customer order number Uxxxxxx has been invoiced, expect delivery shortly"....

So I wonder when I'll receive it?
 
okay, now I am officially over excited, spoke to Vincent at the call centre (0821959) he confirmed phone is with the couriers (RAM) and will be delivered tomorrow. Also I got RAM's contact details, so tomorrow morning I am gonna follow up with them.

How did you get the waybill no etc? Should see how mines coming along.
