HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fortress)

I got mine yesterday and is very happy with it sofar...I've looked at all the custom ROMs on the XDA site, but is still a bit "bang" to go that route. I've already installed SK Tools, which is quite cool!

I haven't found the need to run custom ROMs. I used to do it on my old P3400 because the official support for the device ended at WM5, so the only way to get WM6.1 was with a custom ROM.
Leaf released the official 6.5 ROM las year so there's not much need for custom ROMs.

I see the progress in porting Android is moving along quite nicely so once that's fully working, I'd definitely give it a try

Question, what OS are you running? Have you installed ActiveSync on XP or Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista/7? As soon as I connect my phone, it syncs.

The only other thing I can think of is that under one of your settings somewhere, the phone isn't set to sync mail or contacts.

I also had problems this whole morning to get it right...try this:

"If this happens, tap Start > Settings, and then tap All Settings. Tap Connections tab > USB to PC, then clear the Enable faster data synchronization check box. This makes your computer utilize a serial USB connection with your device."

Worked for me :-)

I'm still on WM6.1, what are the benefits of 6.5 over it?

Well my ROM came with a newer version of Manila (TF3D) with nice new improvements. Like the animated weather on the home screen etc.
One of the big benefits for me is the added spacing and enlarged menu's - makes finger presses a lot easier. In fact I have not used my stylus since upgrading.

Bigger Menu's: http://pdadb.net/img/os/ppc_6.5/windows_mobile_6_5_email_menu.jpg
It also comes with the Titanium interface so if you don't like Manila, you can disable it and still have a nice home interface.
Here's the old WM6.1 home screen: http://www.phonemag.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windows_mobile_61_1.jpg
And this is Titanium: http://i43.tinypic.com/24cdwn5.jpg

The new Start Menu is quite nice too, the honeycombe layout. This is also much more finger-friendly: http://pdadb.net/img/os/ppc_6.5/windows_mobile_6_5_start_menu.jpg
The Home Screen Task manager is a standard feature: http://i.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/htc-diamond-vs-samsung-omnia/sshot/gsmarena_s117.jpg
The boring old lock screen has FINALLY been upgraded to a slide unlocker: http://windowsphonemix.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/pc_capture15.png

I'm sure there's more that I can't remember...

Look 6.5 was released as an inbetween to keep people calm with the delays in WM7 so there aren't major differences.
Still for me, as an official ROM, there's no harm in installing it. The minor improvements are very welcome

Hey guys, I just recently got this phone, but i have a few issues... well not really issues, but just things i hope i can change...

with the sms's, it groups it in conversations, like if its from bob, it will store all me sent and received messages to and from bob in one convo... is it possible ti disable this?(so all the messages are seperate)

and is it possible to put the phone on silent, but so that it still vibrates?

Hey there,

I quite liked the threaded sms feature but I found it slows down the messaging application all together. So I use this little tool to get it into a normal format: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541168
It's quite nice cos it has a setting that will wake the device up when a message arrives i.e. the light comes one and the msg preview does too.

With regards to vibrate mode, press the volume rocker on the left side to change the volume. You will see two additional buttons, one for silent and the other for vibrate.

i see you have had your phone for a while? is it still going well?
I can just install these right? no hacking or cracking needed?

Yup got it in July last year.
I absolutely love my phone. I still catch myself admiring it :)
It's my 3rd HTC and my 3rd WM phone, and I've been extremely happy with this one. It's very stable, very quick and very responsive.

And yeah, no hacking/cracking required.
The Tom Text Messaging isn't an installation, you just run the executable in the folder.
I just keep it on my storage card.

You can try to run it without the .net framework but I'm 90% sure it won't run. The netcfv35.wm.armv4i.cab is just a regular install. Run the cab, I would say install to the device and storage card to be safe, and that's it

thats the problem, i can't download that .net, cos its blocked at work..... so I'll give it a shot and see if it works...

Ohhh I see.. where can you download from? I can upload mine somewhere

not sure... give me somewhere, and i'll test...

I definately agree with you bout how awesome this phone is.... a bit confusing in the beginning, but more that worth the initial effort...

sorry bout the late reply.... Got a bit snowed down.....

I got it off the microsoft site... How do i go about installing it? with activ sync?

Yeah I think the one of the MS site will be a PC exe install, so you'll need ActiveSync. If you can get the cab, you just transfer that over to the storage card and install
