HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fortress)

Haha yeah that's true. The price on the Touch Pro 1 hasn't really dropped that much so I can't imagine this one will just yet
 
The pay in on the Touch Pro (original one) is still like R3K even on a Talk 500 so I'm sure you won't find the TP2 in the bargain bin anytime soon!
 
anyone in Cape Town with this phone feel like swapping for an N97 for a day or two? Or maybe even permanent?
 
Jeepers that's madness. 1k pm month for 24 months?? No way!
I'm sure other contracts will come out soon enough that don't include sms & data bundles
 
Talk 120, R3,799 pay-in @ R385pm.

Talk 240, R3,799 pay-in @ R430pm.

That looks a bit weird to me, in the case of the above, I'd go for the Talk 120, then upgrade to the Talk 240 - just in case I wanted to rollback to the Talk120 in a year.
 
Smart 120 is R6xx per month... no pay in... 250mb, 100sms, 120min at Vodacom store...

so tempted... but scared of contract issues after my ordeal with MTN...

also, friends are recommending iphone 3gs 32gb over this... and its a R100/pm cheaper...
 
I'm still waiting on mine to arrive from Expansys. Will be calling them on Monday to find out if everything has made it through customs yet.

The thing that is really frustrating though is that a close friend of mine in the UK got the phone for 20 pounds a month on contract. With benefits we can only dream of here. Sigh

There are also lots of ways to improve a Windows Mobile device without having to flash a custom ROM. There are LOTS of registry settings and custom applications around that will improve your device.

Don't forget that the Touch Pro will get a free upgrade to WinMo 6.5.

Also, the FM Radio on the TP2 works 100% after installing the tuner app mentioned earlier in the thread.

So:

- Proximity sensor to turn on and off the screen while in a call and placed next to your ear
- TV Out capability with optional extra cable
- Newer TouchFlo 3D software (FaceBook integration with contacts, better zooming and panning of photos, calendar tab, finger friendly menu's in all applications, etc.)
- Free WinMo 6.5 Upgrade (Not such a big plus since you'll be able to get a ROM on xda-developers)
- Narrower
- Shiny-er

This is true. However, for me anyway, the main appeal of custom ROMs is to upgrade the OS. For eg. my phone was WM6.1 but there are custom ROMs for WM6.5 and pretty soon WM7 will be released
 
Got my Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) after upgrading my Vodacom contract.
Had it for about 2 weeks now after upgrading from the Tytn II (Kaiser).

It's a great phone. I've had mine for over a month now so let me know if you need any help or anything ;)
 
Thanks Charlie. All running well, battery life is great, 3 days compared to 1 day with the Tytn II.

I dont like the touchflo interface so have it switched off.
FM radio works great and GPS lock in less than 10 seconds, even faster than my Garmin!!
Lot's of other clever features.

What GPS software are you using?
I found that with 3G usage, the battery dies within a few hours :(
 
I'm using turbo GPS.
I have my phone checking emails every two hours via 3G.

I have been wanting to turn off 3G as I did on my Tytn II which is supposed to help with run time.
I have just done this and I'll see how much the battery life improves.

upgraded to this fone from a nokia e65. i'm in love with this phone. i wonder if the courts will marry us?

i was a bit of a nokia fanboi before this (recent phones are e65 & n73) so i still have to get properly used to the UI but i'm getting there.

used the gps to get to work this morning (garmin xt) and it worked beautifully, now i just need to get a cradle and i can chuck my chunky nuvi away.

i loaded a custom windows mobile 6.5 rom (latest EnergyROM), it was nice and all but had way too many bugs for my liking so i reverted back to the stock rom.

programs that have made my phone a super-phone:
CorePlayer (brilliant media player)
FM Radio
Advanced Configuration Tool (tweak your phone exactly how you want it)
ChangeScreen (allows all screens to be rotate-able in any orientation)
Wifi internet sharing (turns your phone into a wireless router)

I know the feeling :) After nearly two months I still stare at my phone in amazement. slide out the keyboard, slide it back in... smile blissfully... lol

Also give some of these a try:
  • MaxTTM (UI customization)
  • CFC GUI (also UI customization by allowing you to edit the manila files. also lets you set one background for all your manila tabs - my custom theme is here)
  • Need for Speed Undercover (fun game that allows to steer with the accelerometer)
  • Smartlock (can choose to lock your device on suspend various other configs)
  • Smaberg Powerbutton X1 (holding down the power button now gives you many other options besides shut down only)

There tons of applications out there. One I'm eager to try is panoramic backgrounds... So all your tabs scroll over one panoramic image
