HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fortress)

You buggers!!!
Well hopefully I'll be the happy owner of one of these puppies soon too (hoping for this weekend)...they I can join the "buggers" crowd!

Thanks for the heads up on the extra apps...guess I'll just have to read :( about them for now.

Still deciding if I want a contract again - can anyone tell me off hand if vodacom has as many billing issues and general issues as MTN?

well i've never had any issues with vodacom. i was about to leave voda for mtn but after some research i decided to stay. better the devil i know than the devil i don't know.

also, if you don't want a 'proper' contract, then why not get a top-up contract from voda? that's what i did, i was on talk500s (R810pm ) but migrated to a top-up315s (R325pm) and the phone costs R189pm, so total R514pm. i feel like i'm better off, i have a new phone AND i'm paying voda R300 less each month, all that equals win ;)

I see Nashua mobile got this mobile for R420 a month!
In the vodacom booklet i got at the airport this phone is going for R636 a month!
Any other better deals out there?Im sure the networks will drop some great deals close to xmas time!

Wicked - got mine this weekend at last! At this point it's still Vanilla (no extra software) but that's mostly because I don't have an SD card yet for it...is the biggest one can get right now an 8GB? Ah well...probably go tomorrow and pick up an 8GB.

As for software I already have a nice collection that's just waiting...even the SDK so that I can hopefully get into some dev for it...think I'll put the FM radio app on to start with so that I can listen to the radio at work tomorrow. I must say that Windows mobile seems to offer quite a bit of stuff...that remote desktop is gonna be the shnizzzness (can just imagine connecting to the ICANTSAYCLIENTNAME servers and running scripts while eating out lol)!

I think I'll have to give her a sexy name now!

Have a look at Password Safe as both a very usefull application and an example of what you can develop. Thomas' Fluid library is very powerfull and snazzy but not easy to work with since there are no simple examples yet. All souce code for the library and the Password Safe example application is provided.

Awesome - thanks! I guess it's all going to be a little different from standard desktop development but at least a lot easier than trying to create something for the PSP (and the limited buttons just made it less interesting).

I see there's a new ROM available on the HTC website... anyone tried it out yet?

Improved Functions and Fixes

1. The Financial Providers Icon (Yahoo!) was placed in the Stock Tab in TouchFLO to clearly indicate where the data originated.
2. The phone now shows the actual amount of RAM (288MB) instead of the amount used in previous models (256MB).
3. Radio Upgrade.

New Versions:
ROM Version: 1.19.421.1
Radio Version: 3.45.25.21

My Current Versions:
ROM Version: 1.19.421.0
Radio Version: 3.44.25.27

I've got the same versions as you. The yahoo indication and memory indication is fixed in our version as well. I don't think the minor radio upgrade will improve much of anything. I'll wait for the 6.5 Rom.

I'm quite anxious for 7...
6.5 is just some cosmetic changes, not really much to write home about :-\

7 is expected to have multi-touch which should be most fun :)

The 6.5 upgrade wil be free for TP2 and TD2 devices.

MS is keeping 6.5 around together with 7 when it is released. 6.5 will continue to power the "low-end" devices like TP2, HD, TD2, etc. while 7 will be for newer and more powerfull devices with capacitive touch screens and full video acceleration.

That how I understand the situation anyway.

Yeah but what I'm saying 6.5 isn't much of an upgrade...
They've changed a few layouts etc but the functionality of the OS won't be a great improvement from 6.1. I've ran many custom 6.5 ROMS and it really wasn't worth it

I agree. I'll load it just because it's the latest and there might be some invisible fixes. i.e. Live Mesh does not work on TP2 and TD2 when certain other programs are installed. I'm not yet sure which app is messing up Live Mesh.

As soon as I've got some time, I'll reset my TP2 and re-install all my apps to see when Mesh breaks.

I'm not saying 6.5 is going to resolve these types of issues since it is still based on the same version of WinCE. I'm just saying that I hope it does improve a little.

Also. The 6.5 interface may be good enough to use without Touch Flo 3D which will save some memory. The current 6.1 interface looks almost exactly like my Compaq iPaq i bought in 1999.

Yeah the interface was ok... I think I still prefer TF3D though...
Can see 6.5 here:
