HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fortress)

I love my phone, but the build quality seems slightly off, perhaps it's just my one. In particular, the battery cover squeaks and creaks a lot when I have the phone's keypad open and I'm typing. Not a nice feeling. I've been thinking of putting some paper in the cover to make it a tighter fit.

Apart from that the phone seems pretty solid so far.

Hmm that's not good... I don't have anything like that on mine.
Maybe you can request a new one?

Some other news to fellow TP2 owners...
Windows Mobile 6.5 was launched yesterday and new ROMs will soon be available on the HTC site :)

http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=112024&lang=1033

HTC Corporation today announced its first mobile phones to include the latest Windows Mobile® 6.5 software. In addition to the new HTC HD2 and Touch2, newly purchased Touch Diamond2s and Touch Pro2s will include Windows Mobile 6.5 while upgrades will be offered to existing customers that previously purchased the Touch Diamond2 or Touch Pro2 phones.

....

Customers with an original HTC Touch Diamond2 or Touch Pro2 will be able to update their phone via a new ROM which will be available from HTC’s website in the coming weeks at www.htc.com.

I can understand what an adjustment this must be for you...
With regards to a media player, try TCPMP. The free version has been discontinued for a while now but it stil lworks well: http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/tcpmp.pocketpc.0.72RC1.cab

I ran TomTom on mine for a while but never really had much use for it so now I just use the included Google Maps.

I've never tried Garmin but I think it's just about personal preference which software you use.

There's also Igo8 but just like TomTom & Garmin, it isn't free.

If you're looking for a free option, Google Maps is probably the best you can get IMO

Thanx guys. ill try this over the weekend

I have had my TP2 for just about a month. Other than the size, this is truly a brilliant phone. There is also a world of win mobile applications and games available as well.

I have installed the TCMP, but get the following error on running it:

"Unexpected Program failure. Please send "crash.txt" to the developers"

Any idea what causes it?

Besides that I have installed Skyfire, Nav4All, Total Commander, and a whack of games.
It has been a great month exploring this phone.

Winmobile 6.5: what's the word this? Is this upgrade worth it?

Thanks

Whats the best paid option?

That's like asking what the best car is... or what's the best take out restaurant...
It's an opinion. I personally like TomTom but a lot of people prefer Garmin. It's a personal preference.
Garmin has certain features that TomTom doesn't and visa versa

Oops sorry that was the wrong link I posted :o
Try v03 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381292
If you have any issues try some of the other versions

As for WM6.5, it isn't a huge upgrade from 6.1. I get the impression it was put out just to keep users busy till WM7 is ready (which should be next year some time).

HTC will have updated ROMs in a few weeks, so they say.
This one is slightly themed but it you can get any idea of what it looks like here: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=seq460&s=5

Thanks. I googled a bit and found this link here:

Not sure how this differs from the xda link - there are 2 TP options available - I installed the TP 2 CineVisionScope cab. It did however give me an error (on the 1st start) that my ffmpeg driver is not up to date. I followed the instructions and thereafter it worked just fine.

Is this a newer version?
