HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

Ok - couldn't help myself so gave 808 a ring. I was told by the very helpful guy on the other end (after confirming things) that stock of the Jasjam (not Jasjar or any other model) was available and that the cost to upgrade would be R2650 which was reduced from R3250 :confused:

Great. I asked to speak to the retensions department as I thought the R2650 was a little steep (same price on all Procall packages for an upgrade, regardless of the plan he informed me). The man in retensions department said the phone was absolutely not available and could not provide a price.

I sort of knew that would happen - I am back in waiting mode again... :rolleyes:

@Neural

Shame the helpful dude obviously needs some glasses :rolleyes:

Sorry Neural but you do know as soon as I know you'll know as I mentioned I looked at MTNSP's promo's and the only phone I saw on packages there was the JASJAR the JASJAM was nowhere to be found.............

LOL - he even spelt it back to me when I asked him to!

Hopefully my phone is going to hold on for another week or two. It is on its last legs - 5 year old Nokia 6310.

I got the pricelist dated 11 Dec to 31 Dec 2006. No HTC models on there. When I go the MTN Connect stores I'm told that it would be available next year. I asked a guy at the MTN connect store in Canal Walk about the TyTN. He then told me I must rather go for the Jasjam because apparently it's much better. I told him it's exactly the same phone. Then he said that i-Mate is bringing in the HTC models. I had to get out of there very quickly because I felt my blood pressure rise.

I think I'm gonna leave the TyTN for now and get any other phone and when my other contract is due for upgrade February/March I'll get the TyTN then. Maybe it's much cheaper then as well.

if theres one thing i cant stand its misinformation! (generally leads to me parking with a mop or a broom in hand :mad: ) definite training issue here, pm the guys name and il have this looked into?

I posted this on hellopeter, if I didnt have faith that MTN will come in cheaper than the rest I would move.... lets see if this gets any response other than more non answers and delays...

The HTC TyTn or iMate JasJam was launched globally in July. MTN has taken 6 months to approve the phone and is still unable to state with certainity (different people at MTN have different answers) wether the phone has been approved by the network, If so has it been signed off. If it has been signed off when will they have stock??? What will the pricing structure be???

There are many loyal MTN subscribers waiting for this handset patiently for months while Vodacom has been selling the unit for a month. I can get it on a MTN contract from Autpogae Or Supercall but not a word from MTN SP. In fact we get incredible stories from MTN SP 808 varying from it wont be available, to its still being tested, to only the imate to ..... but NO date for launch and NO pricing.

The irony is that MTN sponsors the 1 day cricket against India and you would have an MTN advert followed by a HTC TyTyn advert.

For a company that prides itself on being first with technology, I am afraid that you have failed us badly for no reason but inneffiency on the part of the team that tests the product, marketing and promotions and the people responsible for placing the orders.

Do they have stock?
When will it be available to MTN Contract subscribers?

@snakepit

I eagerly await your answer. I think this is highly embarrassing for a network that is widely touting itself on national radio as being "first with technology"!

I think your PR department needs to get in touch with Midrand - they seem to be on a different page. Advice (albeit not a given) to early adopters of this type:

is a serious case of over-promising and under-delivering, something which infuriates clients no-end.

I will follow Afristar's post on Hellopeter with interest as well... http://www.hellopeter.com/details.asp?id=90703

I got confirmation about 5 minutes ago from MTNSP Headoffice that they do have stock now of the i-Mate Jasjam and HTC TyTN. I will receive a call before the end of the day with confirmation of the Price on packages as well.

I'll keep you guys posted.;)

Just received my TYTN from Supercall on MTN so it's definitely available now.

Jip, but that's Supercall. For some reason all the different Service Providers, ie. Nashua Mobile, Supercall, Autopage, MTNSP etc... doesn't have the phones available on the exact same date. Altough all of them are MTN as well.

@corneg

If you don't mind me asking, how much for the phone on which package?

Thanks

Hmm,

No updates yet. Time to christmas ticking, ticking, TICKING!!!

Ok guys. Here you go.

On the Procall 120 and up. This is at MTNSP

HTC TyTN = R2299
i-Mate Jasjam = R2600

So I'm actually glad I didn't wait two more days to find this out before I upgraded. Maybe it will be much cheaper when I upgrade my other contract March/April.:rolleyes: :cool:

is there much difference between the Imate and the HTC? i thought they were almost exactly the same??? :confused:

They are the same. Only thing is the branding. You see, HTC is the Manufacturer. i-Mate just brand it and sell it at a higher price. So it will be silly of anyone to buy a i-Mate when you can buy the HTC.
