Got one on black Friday for R300. Lasted the whole 2.5 hour loadshedding.
whats it called? thinking of getting one myself seeing as loadshitting might become a regular feature of our lives once again...

Just get a normal 600VA ups - it'll allow you too run more than just one device and should be roughly the same price

Try putting a MikroTik infront of it, then you can use the scheduler to change between LTE connections/ADSL

does exactly what I need it to do, only little niggle was setting it up, as its quite tricky, and not very straightforward,
then its a matter of setting the right timers up, and turns off at 6PM, and on at 11PM, everyday recurring

Hi Guys,
I have come across this problem with my Huawei B618. I have a full 5 bar constant signal with -8 db; -71dbm and 14 dB as indicated in the system status. However I have noticed that sometimes it looses connectivity from Cell C and stays off but signal remains good. To restore connectivity I have to manually reset by removing power for +- 20 seconds and reconnect, The router will then restore connectivity again. The last time it happened the above would not do the trick and I had to use the "Reset" on the router and reconfigure again.
I then went out and borrowed a DLink router and set this up. It went off once but restored the connectivity automatically. I suspect something amiss with the B 618. Any ideas ?

It could be or it could just be Cellc. You would have to try another B618 to confirm though.

I tried using the B618 as a fibre router on an Openserve 200Mbps line. From what I could have gathered is ethernet speeds are maxing at ~170Mbps but 5G wifi right next to the router maxes the line at ~ 198Mbps. I tried both the B618s-22d and B618s-65d and both give the exact same result. Tried Cat5 and Cat5e cables but made not noticeable difference. I'm guessing that might be the peak for PPPoE on the B618 which is a real pity.

I would like to connect the two with a network cable +-30m away.
I saw on Youtube there are options to convert routers to access points this way.
What would this entail?

Yes, just run a CAT5 cable between the 2. On the secondary one set the Ethernet setting to Dynamic IP or Static IP and give it an IP address. When I set mine up I set it to Dynamic and set a static IP allocation on the Pi Zero that is set up with Pi-hole that acts as my dhcp server as well.
The Pi Zero is powered by main routers USB port and connects to it via WiFi.

Make sure to turn DHCP off on one of them too
