HUAWEI B618 LTE-A router discussion thread.

New Topic:
Having a strange issue on my 65D where it periodically decides to stop routing traffic. Everything blocked through the router, although admin page still responsive and nothing obvious in the logs and only way to restore connectivity to Internet is to disconnect/reconnect WAN or reboot. Tried "Diagnosis Pings" from admin page and even they fail to the Internet.
After a minute or so, all traffic passes through again and fine for another day or two. Sometimes happens a few times a day.
Does not seem unique to connection type i.e. happening on all LTE types, 4G and 4G+
Any similar experiences?

Hmmm, guess you cannot power these via Power Over Ethernet, and they cannot supply Power over Ethernet to other devices . :(

Can anyone please advise. I bought a new Huawei 618 from Takealot, delivered this morning. After inserting the Sim (Rain) I was connected to the internet immediatly. 4 icons showing Update available, Signal Strength, Upload & Download, WLAN 5G enabled
However, when I want to configure the router using my laptop and entering the IP 192.168.8.1 I get the usual login admin admin but once in, I have only got one choice and that is Quick Setup. After going through the Quick Setup steps 1, 2 and 3 and changing the password, click finish. I stay on Step 3 of Quick Setup. There are none of the usual Home, Security, System etc. Not even the nag screen to change the admin login password.
Does anyone know what is going on?

You lucky you got yours, mine is still not packed and I ordered it Monday.

Sorry I cannot help with your issue. Maybe a factory reset, and start again. ?

I can answer my own query I think. Accessing the router using Huawei Hi Link, I updated the routers firmware and after it rebooted, everything was as per normal :)

Bad luck then, I also ordered on Monday and they told me immediatly it would be delivered today.
I did get sorted with my problem so take note in case you have the same problem when you get yours.

Mine is marked as for delivery for Saturday, possibly as I have ordered US to EU adapter plugs with mine for my Fire TV sticks power supply. So it is not yet ready.

Good day

I am new here as well.

I have the B618-22d. I have a rain SIM card in it. R250 0ff peak.

I have average speeds around like 2+- Megs because of the area I live in. Obviously speeds are much more better in the am. Apparently I have a tower less then 1km from my house. I drove around and don't see it, I might be looking in the wrong area but I used my cell ID and the method posted here to find it. The results I got of the location of the tower are the same as a fellow MyBB forum member got for me as well.

I have bought the Poynting X-Pol-0002-V2 High Gain & LTE Antenna, I thought it was omni directional but seems its directional, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I wish I asked before I purchased but here are my questions

1. For rain what settings do I need to change/configure so my Router works best with my Network ( where do I select the 1800mhz/2600mhz on the router and other stuff)
2. Is the antenna worth it.
3. the best methods to get the best performance from the equipment I have. I know we can't do much about the tower.

1. You need to log into the router control panel - should be 192.168.8.1 (if it is still on default settings). Use a browser and the ip to get to the control panel. Default username and password should be admin and admin respectively. It might ask you to set a new password. Once logged in, go to settings - dial up - network settings to see the frequency settings.
2. I don't actively use one, but I have tested one a while ago - if setup correctly it can a significant bump up. That being said, not sure on Rain though as they seem to be very slow in areas outside main cities.
3. Getting your antennae line of site with tower (if possible) would be have best results.

Hi there.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction to get the latest firmware for my B618s-22d?

Currently on Software Version 11.195.03.00.00

Checking for update from within the router says "This version is up-to-date". But I am pretty sure there are newer versions.

Thanks in advance.

My version is 11.195.03.01.1232
Just make sure your auto update is ON (Settings -> System -> System Settings), or else use the update menu

Have that all set up and still on the "old" version. :(

Anyone use the B618 as a fibre router? and how is the experience? Seeing as it has a WAN port and in the coming months ill have fibre, i was wondering i using the B618 as a fibre router is a viable option or should i rather opt for another router.
Currently have 2 b618 routers connected to a TP link loadbalance switch that switches between them during the day. And also a Unifi Pro access point to have less wifi to contend with.
Was hoping to use 1 for fibre and keep the other as backup in case fibre goes down.

Fibre would very seldomly go down... And if it did, couldn't you just keep a sim card to insert into the single router?
I would sell one

Mmmm that's a great idea, not sure if the router has like a fallback option if fibre goes down it will switch over to LTE

Hi all,

I’ve got a 65D model that I’m using on one of Afrihost’s MTN deals as a separate internet line purely for my PS4 gaming. What’s the easiest way that I could optimise this so that I get the best performance ito minimal lag/latency?

Hi All,

I read through a lot of the discussions on this forum and decided to upgrade my router from the Huawei B315 to the B618s-65d (I'm on Telkom's LTE).

I manually set the router's band to be 4G 2300mhz.

The speed difference was dissapointing..It went from around 16Mb/s to around 20-26Mb/s.

Is this to be expected? What type of speed increases should one get?

Thanks

What were you expecting? That is 60% improvement

Was expecting a 100% increase.

On a good day the B315 would reach 22Mb/s so hopefully the B618 can reach higher speeds than when tested. Also, the router is literally 400m from the towers..
