Best is to track your connectivity and usage from vodacom4me.co.za. There are no logs on the router.

Yeah, this router is lacking in some departments. Would be nice to have a usage log, SMS function, config backup, and probably some other features I'm missing out on.

Hi All

Code:
Speed: 7.2 Mbps downlink, 2Mbps uplink spec sheet

Installed aerial and speed still jerky.
Download 3Mpbs very jerky and upload 0.3 Mpbs.
Using Wi-Fi connection.
Running latest patch.
Any suggestion.

This firmware is only intended for routers sold by Vodacom in South Africa. Flashing another providers router with this firmware will at the very least void your warranty and at worst brick your router (this is especially relevant if you don't know what you are doing).

warranty is not a problem. unlocked firmware is more important hehe.

Flashing the firmware does not affect the lock status of your device (for Huawei devices anyway). So if it was locked it will stay locked.

Regarding the B970R router as on VC's site : http://www.vodacomdirect.co.za/Find...tent=B970_msgrPlus&utm_campaign=Data_Mrch2010

(quite urgent :p)

1. Is it possible to connect a Windows/Linux PC and have PPTP VPN functionality?
2. Does the router handle the connection, or does Windows/Linux handle it?
3. Does the router have a built-in firewall and VPN capabilities?

Many thanks

Libs

The B970 has 2 modes. In router mode it will make the connection and provide WiFi. You can connect to a web interface to mange things like DynDNS and the basic firewall. If you attach to the router via USB it acts like any other USB 3G card. Your OS makes the connection and thus the OS needs to provide firewalling etc. The web interface and WiFi will not be available in this mode. It does not have VPN feature. So something behind it will need to do the work. If you want built in VPN look at something like the Draytek Vigor range which has a USB port for attaching 3G modems. It has VPN support and more advanced firewalling options.

Can't you roll your own with a 3G modem and smoothwall? ;)

where can i buy this cable? thanks

That's the one. You could probably just use a normal A-B cable. The split cable is there mainly for older systems where a single USB port does not supply enough power. You local PC/electronics shop should stock at least the normal A-B cable as most printers use them nowadays.

If you're in Pretoria, there's a place in Hatfield that has all types of cables:-

Compu-Cable Projects
1028 Pretorius Street
Hatfield
Pretoria
0083
Main: 012 3429160

I bought a 5 meter USB extension cable from them for R27.

i tried normal usb printer cable. it does not work. it does not even turn on. btw, my power adapter indicates 5v 2amps. but the usb port of a PC is only 500mah right? thanks

Have you tried it in more than one machine?
