Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

Sorry Guys, but I don't have the time to trawl through this thread.
Has the firmware upgrade been sorted of all the bugs initially found.
I would like to upgrade but not if it still gives hassels - I am no expert so things must be automatic and easy.
But is is still one - hell - of - a - router!!
Will there be a 14.4 firware upgrade or is it at its hardware limit?
 
Well the reason why I upgraded to firmware SP4 was because I thought it fixed a bug where it reset to factory defaults every now and then. But after upgrading to SP4, that bug was still there. No new firmware from what I've seen.

I think this router can only push 7.2 downloads, and 2 uploads. I'm not sure if a firmware upgrade will be possible to boost speeds to higher, as I think this is a hardware limit. I could be wrong.

We'll have to wait for a newer router from Vodacom to become available.

Hardware limit. I am happy with 3.6. 7.2 and beyond is a nice to have IMO.
 
Has anyone heard anything regarding a new router from Vodafone that support the newer HSPA+ speeds?

Got hold of a B970 (Never been out of the box)

Setup seems as easy as it should be, but somehow my notebook (XP SP3) can establish a wireless connection with the router, which both my phones do without problem. It finds the network, and I enter the network key and then it gets stuck on "Waiting for the network". It works fine using a cable...

Assistance will be appreciated!

Check your authentication protocols match (WPA etc)
 
This is working for me with an XP SP3 Pro and Home machine:
802.11 Auth: Open
Encryption Mode: WPA-PSK|WPA2-PSK
WPA Encryption: TKIP

Sounds like your wireless connection might already have static IP settings configured for it & if the router is configured as a DHCP server, then you need to make sure it's all on auto.

I'm running Windows 7, so I just click on the wireless connection icon in the system tray and select "Open Network and Sharing Center". You can also click on your network connection, will take you to the same page.

Then click on "Change adapter settings" and it will show you your wireless and network connection.

Right click on your wireless connection, select Properties.

Then click on on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)" and select Properties at the bottom.

On the next page, make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS settings automatically" must be selected. Click ok and you're done.
 
Hello everybody,

I found this interesting topic about B970 and I was wondering if you may help me with some info.
I have a B970 that I wish to use as a LAN router. By default it can only route the GSM connection. I canceled my Vodafone contract and they left me the router. Do you have knoledge of any custom firmware that can be uploaded to it?
If I disable the DHCP connection, HSDPA being disconnected, it acts like a switch, a wireless switch :)
A firmware that could change one of the ports into the "internet connection", would transform it into a perfect LAN router :)

any ideas?

I have a bit of strange problem with a friend who has a B970 router. It seems that is keeps on dropping packets. He runs a continuous ping to Vodacom.co.za and a few other IP addresses and every now and then a few packets would be dropped. It would not happen continuously, just maybe a few packets get lost every few hours or so.

Now he's tried swapping out the B970 router for a newer one. Tried updating the router firmware, but nothing seems to work and now I’m not sure if it is the router or something else?

When using a separate 3G datacard, Huawei E272, there is no packet loss, and also when using the older Linksys router with a Huawei E630 datacard there is also no packet loss. There is only packet loss with B970 router.

The B970 router is connected via LAN cable to the PC and we've tried different LAN ports as well, and also tried connecting wirelessly to the router, still the same. We have also tried the router and all other devices with a 3G Poynting antenna as well, as we thought it might be a signal issue, but again the packet loss only happens on the B970 router and not on the other devices, with or without the Poynting antenna.

Could anyone point me in the right direction to look? Maybe a setting on the B970? As I am not sure what it could be?
 
Installed a B970 on site beginning of this month.

Works quite nice. Except that the router lost its settings after a power failure, and need to be reconfigured.

Is this normal that the settings be lost after a power failure? :confused: I don't think so.

That is strange. Can't say that I have noticed this. MTU sizes perhaps?
