Heyup, got our B970b router which need to go to site :D

Just one Q : what is the dial-up number for vodacom? Something like #99,,1 something, can't recall what it should be.

PPP user name and password should be blank, right?

APN should be unrestricted (we applied for an unrestricted APN to allow VPN from outside into the network).

IP address is dynamic.

Create the virtual server - add the name, ports and IP, then click OK

Once you've finished, click Apply.

Not very intuitive - you'd think to first Apply then OK... :rolleyes:

Also, there was only the router, the stand, and the power supply in the router's box, together with the manual and nothing else.

No network cable or USB cable.

Is this correct? As the manual makes mention of an USB and network cable. :confused:
 
The B970 shipped with a network and a USB cable. Either you've been duped or they have reduced components to save on costs.

I've gone through the manual, it has all these features and more (e.g. VPN, ADSL backup). Don't know if the B970B has new features but at this time it seems the DIR-455 is the better choice ...

On second thoughts - I tend to adhere to the KISS principle.

These routers will be offsite, and I don't want any more funky stuff which the technicians have to fiddle and diddle for. A simple setup works the best, not one which you have to dig here and there just to get something to work.

Luckily there's a Linux box, so we can set up dyndns on these.
 
I see there are three models:

D-Link DIR-455
D-Link DIR-456
D-Link DIR-457

The 455 is similar to the B970, the 456 has less ethernet ports and the 457 has none. I'm guessing the 457 might be relatively cheap.
 
Just found a bug in the B970b...

Setting up the PPP connection with the "Auto" setting enabled will cause the B970b to reject the SIM after a while. Weird. Did a factory reset and reconfiguration three times before I decided to try the "On Demand" setting instead of the "Auto" setting.

Set it up with the "On Demand" setting - this bypasses the issue.

Weird.

Otherwise it works well.
