I've been looking at your pictures. Is that connector for the WiFi or a 3G antenna? What is the in/out switch for above the LAN ports?

Hi, connector is for the wifi antenna as per the book. the switch is probably for the setting between internal and external antenna.

Suck. Why is there no connector for a 3G antenna. That is a serious fail. :(

I think v3g should get them to make a B972 with a connector ;)

you do know that Vodacom doesnt manufacture these items dont you? Anyways. its an optional extra. THe Huawei E272 usb modem has a port for an external antenna but you still have to buy it seperate. Same applies to the B970 router. all i can say is that the router works very nicely. Used it the while day yesterday and never had a problem.

Huawei made the E272 exclusively for Vodafone, so no reason they can't do a special B970 for them as well :)

Buying the antenna separate is not the problem. Not having a port to plug it into is. Would be nice to have the option in case you find yourself in a location with bad signal.

agreed. but i suppose thats their way of making extra money hey.

Ok guys, my bad. The connector IS for an external antenna. And the switch is for the internal or external antenna. My apologies for the wrong info.

Hi guys,
Can anyone with a b970 confirm that it works with any sim card? In other words, is it network locked? I want to use it in namibia, we also have 3g there.

actually i didnt connect with it. i just put it in to see if it works.

Did you have to change any settings to get it to work with a non-MTN sim or is it as simple as throwing a different sim card in?

Would be nice to have it work with any other network provider - so if you have a good cellc signal, but weak voda and mtn, you can just drop in a cellc sim and get it over and done with. (This is just an example :p)

Can you use USSD comands with this device?

no i dont think you can use ussd commands. i tried already to convert my prepaid airtime to data. Have to either do it the old fashion way or go to www.vodacom4me.co.za and convert my airtime to data.

We're running a digital signage pilot with five B970's using VC prepaid sims. Generally we're happy with them, the only shortcoming so far is it doesn't have DDNS, so we had to write our own DDNS app. For a large network you'll probably have a private APN with static IP's so it wouldn't be an issue then. Hopefully a firmware update will add DDNS.

We paid R2,366 incl VAT with no contract from MTN. A lot cheaper than using a LinkSys WRT54G3G with a datacard.

If anyone wants any info, let me know.

Unless you want your web interface to turn yellow, stay away from the MTN update ;)

What does your Version details say? The loan unit I just received has the following (and I have DDNS as an option):
