Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

I just installed VMC Lite that comes with the device when attached to USB (to get the drivers installed) and found that you can use MDMA to connect! :D
 
I have had ic hijack the first post in this thread so I can add info on the B970 (hope you don't mind Uli). The idea is to carry on posting in this thread and then adding the useful stuff to the first post so we can hopefully reduce duplicate threads/questions.

I have posted some initial details with things like links to pictures and firmware details to be added next. I will trawl through the posts to see what else might be useful to add. If you guys have thoughts on what else to add PM me or post it here.

So MTN have removed the DDNS option from their firmware then?

The page is there!

But alas it doesn't seem to work. When I submit I get a web page error: 'top.g_oFootFrame' is null or not an object. (line 277).

I've got the HTML source and will have a look later but I'd rather just get a copy of your firmware.

Question is ... was DDNS intentionally removed for MTN?!
 
Ok, it's because it needs to be loaded by a frame. I'll mess around with it later on, hopefully there is an update or your firmware available before I have to waste time with that ...

But potentially it may still work ...

Well on MTN's network DDNS serves no purpose because you cannot route traffic to the device (unsolicited inbound connections are blocked, not to mention the NAT problem). I was testing DDNS last night with my MTN SIM and it reported the MTN gateway address rather than the 172.x.x.x the device had at that time.

I guess if you have the source you have found the page with the source and toolchain?

Otherwise if you know how to dump firmware I can dump mine for you :)

I hoped being out of the frame would not be a problem. There did not seem to be a way to generate the link otherwise. I will mess around with the direct link when I have a chance and see what I come up.

You are entering the details and then clicking OK before you click apply?

Do they NAT?

If so, it would make sense to disable DDNS as it would invariably point to a gateway IP.

Also, no unrestricted APN capability in Yellow?

Yes.

I heard a rumour about something called mtnvpn which was supposed be the equivalent of unrestricted, but I have not tested it.

Can you get the firmware off a device? I don't care about MTN ... was a mission to try to get ports opened and I ultimately failed, so I stuck to VC prepaid sims and requesting opened ports. The procedure was semi-ok.

I believe the procedure involves soldering a serial port to some pins on the circuit board and dumping it with Linux. Not for the feint at heart. You are going to have to wait for Vodafone to release a new firmware or if you have some time to spare compile your own firmware with the toolchain and source.
