As Morks said; yes.

I' got mine st up with DDNS on the unrestricted APN and it works a treat to connect back into my office.

I especially like its port mapping and virtual server setup. Much better than the Linksys and it's real-time, i.e. you don't need to reboot for any changes to take effect.
 
Unrestricted APN

How do you set the B970 to use the unrestricted apn as to enable open nat?

You can create a custom connection under the page where you set the provider (i.e. Vodacom Contract). It allows you to pick a name and set the APN. If you can't find it let me know and I will fire my B970 and take a look what the exact steps are.

The MTN "version" does have DDNS, you just need to enable it

Enabling DDNS MTN F@stLink B970


  • Connect via wireless/ethernet to the B970 (**NOT USB**)
    telnet into the device (192.168.1.1 is the default ip)
    at the login, user is admin password is admin irrespective of what you have configured as a password
    then at the # type the following
    # nvram set ddns_cfg_enable=on
    # nvram commit
    # exit

Voila you now have the page enabled (Under advanced settings)......

CAVEAT : I have not tested the DDNS, You may also be missing the icon for the DDNS option (redX)

Thanks for the tip, psc! Is this screen shot from the MTN branded firmware? This looks like a generic Huawei shot to me? If so where did you get it?

It's a F@stLink B970. The device contains the generic web interface for Huawei, there is a standard method for customisation that just has links to the vendors resource, image and style sheets. All I did is change the links to get the standard Huawei pages as I dont like Yellow :D

Log in as per previous post and cut/paste the following as text

Fire up browser to the router

NOTE : the above change is *NOT* persistent over reboots/power cycles. Also only tested on F@stlink B970

Thanks. I suspected it might not persist. Have you had a look to see if the source code on the Huawei site is compilable into something usable yet?
 
Busy downloading it now, only got the router on Saturday :)

Initially I will look at creating an image for the custom partition (with the default pages) saves having to build a full image (and possibly brick the device)

Hehe, nice new toy ;)

ginggs and I were debating the firmware source a little while back and it is possible that not everything you need to compile your own firmware will be there. i.e. they have released what they need to in order to comply with the GPL, but any extra bits they added to get to a final firmware file might not be there.

PS. I have a Vodafone branded one. So if you want any files/logos or anything else off it let me know.
 
Configuring the B970 Router

What is the best way to configure connection to the internet on the B970 router, currently I have set it on manual. Is it best to set it to "On Demand"?

Really depends what you want to do. On Demand will only connect if there is traffic and will drop the connection once it has been idle for a certain amount of time.

I set my router to auto connect and switch it on and off as I need it. That way if the connection drops it will reconnect automatically and when I am done I know the connection is off.
 
Thanks, I thought the "Auto" will always stay connected. I will test it because i just wanted to know that it is off when I am not on the internet, but need it to reconnect if the connection drops by any reason.

Then I will have to show the wife how to connect/disconnect it as she said it is not working, but it was not connected.
 
What I meant by switch it on and off is that I power off the router at the socket :)

Thanks, mine is always on as i use it as a home phone as well as i plugged in a phone so that my wife can check on the nanny/house keeper as her phone is constantly not working.:)
