Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

Does anyone know why these routers have been discontinued from Vodacom?

I popped into Vodaworld today and was told they have been discontinued. They only have the "R2101" (sp?) which is a wifi only router.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a B970b router from?

Hi limnos. Yes...they were discontinued a while ago and there is no replacement model for the B970b router as yet. I have been told there will be one..but no time frame was given etc. You will be hard pressed to find stock of this unit.

In the meantime you can perhaps consider the R201 router in stead.

I heard that Vodacom will be getting the Huawei B683 router end of November.

Definitely a router I would wait for...

LOL....you can give me the number OC, I will tell them I'm phoning from SABC TV Licences, just to break the ice. :D

Not a chance. Besides....warehouse is the wrong place to speak to about this. Their mandate is to handle inventory and dispatching or stock...not if/when and what Vodacom will be getting in stock :-)

MTN branded Huawei B970 - Any way to use another SIM?

My dad has an old router which he wants to give to my sister, the only problem is that it only seems to accept MTN sims and my sister wants to get an 8ta contract. Is there any way of getting the two working? I've spent the last two hours trying to resolve this using a number of different (free) methods?

I see that it's not supported by dc-unlocker.

TIA

The older stuff was network locked and if i am correct i remember that it was locked with firmware. I have a recent Telkom WiMax router that has a wan port but is firmware locked to only use ADSL so no matter what i did it is useless to me...

I don't think there is much you can do but perhaps try firmware from a different vendor.

OR try this! step-by-step-instructions-to-unlock.html

What do you mean it is only seems to accept MTN SIMs?

As far as I know, no modems or routers are network locked in South Africa (apart from a small batch of Vodafone branded Huawei E620s about 6 years ago).

If I insert my Vodacom SIM is reports that the SIM is invalid.

Have you tried it in both router and modem mode? If it works in modem mode with MDMA then it could be a sneaky MTN router dashboard thing.

There was one person who flashed his B970 with the Vodafone firmware and he could use any SIM he liked thereafter. Might be worth a go.
