Huawei E3276 150Mbps LTE USB Modem

Ok. So I guess the 601 is the only one that will support both MTN and TM LTE networks (like 1geoff said), and will have to be purchased externally.

I have a dilemma...
I have a TM E3276 (920 model) and have just received a Huawei AF23 LTE/3G Sharing Router.

Problem, - the E3276 does not work when connected to the AF23. And I've just now read somewhere in this thread that the 2 are not compatible (on the TM network), even though the Huawei and other websites indicate that the E3276 will work with the AF23.

Has anyone found a workaround or can anyone advise on how to get these two devices to talk?
I need a device to create a hotspot so that I can share my TM LTE data wirelessly with my other devices and do not want to buy the big LTE router from TM.

E3276-601 LTE USB modem for TM, MTN & Vodacom

I've read through the forums and it seems the Huawei E3276-601 usb LTE modem is the one to get, as it works on most of SA's LTE networks (except Cell C). FYI, those interested in Cell C should supposedly look at the Huawei E3276s-150 which covers all except Telkom.

Has anyone bought/imported the E3276-601 from a reliable supplier (e.g. amazon or ebay) and tested it?
I can't find any 601 models on e-bay at the moment. Its seems quite difficult to come by.

Ps. Also report on using the E3276 in the usb port of wifi routers (using e.g. the ROOter firmware)?

I've got the E3276S-920 (off eBay for R300-400) in a TP-Link MR3240 V1 with ROOter firmware, it works flawlessly on the Telkom network and only using router USB port power.

Great, thinking of doing the same. The 610 version is very scarce on ebay, mostly over R800. I'd rather buy one 920 for telkom and one 150 for voda/mtn.

BTW, has anyone got a cash price for the E3276S-920 from telkom direct shops?

It is impossible to phone them :wtf:

So I ordered a E3276S-920 (for TM) from ebay from this user dww-us.

Took about a month and a half to get from China to Pretoria. Paid ~R280 + R37 at the post office (R18 in VAT and R19 in clearance fee).
The supplier declared it as a $10 gift , which kinda explains the R18 VAT. No customs duty. I read somewhere an individual person gets two free gifts/imports a year as long as the value is under R400.

My TM internet speed went from ~3Mbps HSDPA (on old usb modem) to 33Mbps LTE. FYI, I use it in my Netgear WNDR3800 wifi router with ROOter firmware.

I've just upgraded the firmware on my Cell-C E3276-150 from 1geoff99's links here.

The modem was supplied with firmware version 21.192.13.00.00.
First I upgraded to Huawei E3276s-920 21.260.03.00.00 normal.
Then I upgraded to Huawei E3276s-861 21.436.03.00.00 Universal.

It appears that the firmwares of the E3276 are interchangeable and you do not have to find one that matches your exact model number, e.g. -150.

^DIALMODE has now changed from 1,2 to 2,3 meaning both Modem and NDIS modes support CDC specification.
The device now appears as a serial modem and a network interface in Windows.
In Ubuntu Trusty, the modem now works with the stock kernel and ModemManager "out-of-the-box". With Modem-Manager-GUI (in the Ubuntu repositories) I can check signal strength and check balances with USSD, SMS, etc.

Edit: After upgrading the firmware I found the connection would go dead in Windows after a several minutes; in Linux it was fine for hours.
I upgraded my Huawei drivers from 4.25.11.0 to 5.01.06.00 (available here - thanks 1geoff99!) and all seems to be well.

howsit dude did the upgrade of the firmware make any difference to the modem?
can you please explain how u updated it. i got e3276s-150 with the same firmware you said you had originally
want to update its going to work better

Yes, it changed the way it presents itself to the operating system. Now it appears as a serial modem and a network interface, before it only appeared as a network interface.

I followed the 'E3276 HiLink and Normal firmware' link from 1geoff99's post and downloaded the two files mentioned in my post.
I then ran the installer for the 21.260 version, then ran the installer for the 21.436 version.

Thanks for your reply.. But in terms of performance of the modem? Did it make any difference
