Huawei P30 Lite

So my second contract is due for an upgrade and since that package alone with the S8 that time is R299 I decided to go for the P30 Lite as I still have my S8 and considering giving the P30 lite to my mum.

I went to 3 stores and called Vodacom online and realized they only sell the 4G RAM 128GB version of the P30 lite. I was hoping for the 6GB RAM version because more memory can't hurt. Vodacom stores only have the midnight black so found stock of the Peacock blue at Vodacom Chatz so feeling somewhat better but still sad no 6GB version.

Keen to test it out and compare S10 vs S8 vs P30 Lite. :)

You won't feel any pain with the 4GB version. Emui memory management is pretty good

Will see but feels like a solid phone. Almost got super excited when I saw the sim tray showing sim 1 and sim 2 but yeah only supports 1 simcard they are just using the same sim tray for the dual sim model.

Also nice to see it supports Wifi calling and VoLTE out of the box.

So since yesterday I swapped my sim from my S10 to my new P30 Lite.

Damn what can I say. This phone is a masterpiece especially when you look at price. R5499 cash price for a phone of this quality.

VoWifi
VoLTE
Type c
Fast charge charger included
Lte advanced
Finger print sensor
Glass back cover
Very decent battery
3 cameras at the back
Microsd slot
128gb internal memory

It feels like I'm holding a flagship device.

Because I know about the 4Gb ram and 6GB ram version it's bothering me but this device performs very well. Plays vainglory and asphalt 9 on max setting without any lag.

Screen is pretty decent too. Pre applied screen film and comes with a clear soft tpu case.

I see aliexpress has replacement LCD screens for this device for $28 so screen replacement is cheap. Speaker is surpringly loud too.

What a device and it compares with Samsung A50 which details for R7k. This device does everything right and in Peacock blue it's very pretty

Why'd you replace the S10 with this? Just curious

Nice to see a thread up on the P30 Lite.
Ordered one on upgrade two weeks ago from CellC (still awaiting my handset *sigh*) but looking forward to playing around with it.

Everyone seems to complain about the notification light, is it even smaller than the P20 Light then?

I won't it's just my second device so keen to test it out and see how it works.

I have a google enterprise account linked to my phone for the unlimited drive storage for $10 per month. To have that linked you need a password or finger print unlock enabled. With the S10 the ultrasonic finger print sensor is HORRIBLE and there is no hiding it. It's not accurate and find yourself locked out of finger print scans for 25 seconds way to often.

This Huawei P30 Lite with the sensor at the back is SOOOOOO good. Instantly unlocks the P30 lite.

Having used the P30 Lite for like 1 day and a half now I feel cheated by Samsung tbh because it feels like I'm not missing ANYTHING when using the S10 or P30 Lite. The S10 has 8GB RAM though and a waaay faster CPU and makes the phone so much snappier but that is about it. Both charges about the same maybe a bit faster on the Huawei. I don't use the camera and wireless charging and although nice to have I think I should have never gotten the S10 and rather settled for maybe an Import of a the 6GB RAM P30 lite because it's a pretty, fast and well priced device.

S10 is wow on paper but for me on day to day it's well meh. Vodacom VoLTE drains the battery so nice to be able to set VoWIFI as priority when I'm at home on my fibre where with Samsung I don't see a setting for that other than on and off.

Yes it is surprisingly small. The reason for that is because they have put the light in the speaker so the speaker grid if I can say it like that is hiding it a bit.

VoWIFI working perfectly on the device and saves battery compared to VoLTE. Also nice you can set Carrier Aggregation on or off for LTE Advanced.

Nice review, going to pick up one of these soon. Have been considering buying a second hand s9 or similar but only being hearing good things about the p30 lite which will suite me i think. coming from a iphone 6 which is on its last legs.

Where can i get it for R5500 cash?

Just an update on my SD card issue. It seems to have been resolved with a "chkdsk" in Windows, and a format in the phone. It's been 8 days (touch wood) having the SD card in, and I haven't had any errors come up so far, whereas I would have gotten the error the following day.

EDIT: Never mind, I spoke too soon Will rather just remove the memory card, to play it safe.

Vodacom shops, Vodacom online or any Vodacom dealers like Vodacom Chatz, Vodacom Live, Otel ect ect all have it on prepaid for R5499 in Peacock blue and Midnight Black. Stock is hard to find because it's a very popular device. When I got mine from Vodacom Chatz the Vodacom store next to them did not have any stock and I took the last Peacock blue from them.

I'm not sure if we get the 6GB RAM version but maybe give that a try. Also Telkom might sell the dual sim version of the P30 Lite so that might also be an option to explore.

The Vodacom version comes with VoLTE and VoWifi out of the box.

so i finally picked mine up yesterday and wow what a device for the price. Coming from my old iphone 6 its an upgrade in every sense accept the video recording. love the screen and finger print sensor. Its so much faster than my older phone. I went with the black and its beautiful, previous phone was white and gold so nice color change for me.

Quick question, i dont see the VoWifi , only Wifi Calling. What do these settings do?

Been using IOS for 10 years and finally in the android space.
I need to move my whatsapp and sms history across. Is there a way i can do this?

Thanks guys.

Vowifi and wifi calling is the same thing just different wording. Basically it allows your simcard to register on a wifi network for calls. Think of it as it makes your number VOIP when it's enabled and you are connected to wifi. It is especially useful when you have adsl or fibre at home and poor signal because it would use the wifi at home to make calls. Also useful when you go out of the country as you will use your phone as normal without extra charges as long as you are connected to wifi.

So a week later and if I had known what I know now I probably would not have upgraded to the Samsung S10 and would have just gotten the P30 Lite as my main device.

When I leave the house in the morning I always seem to reach for my P30 lite with my very expensive S10 laying just next to it. Just love this phone to be honest. Really like the galaxy buds too and they work very well on the P30 lite :D

If you didn't take the S10, then you wouldn't have gotten the galaxy buds

Has anyone gotten a tempered glass screen protector? The plastic protector on my phone is starting to get scratches on it, so I will most likely replace it soon. Any recommendations for a good protector, that doesn't cost a limb, will be appreciated!

Are you using any of these? I want to be able to use the protector with the cover that came in the box, without it lifting up the edges.
