Huawei P6

It is a comment made on numerous gathering on P6/P6S articles I read, here is a snip in a similar line on AndroidPIT?

In another article they suggested EmotionUI to move along with MIUI (on 4.4) which will only be available during February 2014.

This "leaked" video on EMUI 2.0 looks home baked:

The reason I asked, is because I had the emui 2.0 launcher installed, and it doesn't have an app drawer.

Also, they're already testing emui 2.3. I'm not sure why they're jumping from 2.0 to 2.3, but just as long as there are significant improvements, it doesn't bother me :) The beta testing is only for Chinese users though, which kinda sucks, but maybe, just maybe, someone will leak one of the betas :P :D

I haven't watched the video yet; I'm still waiting for it to load in the YouTube app.

I get the idea that they might limit developments around the P6 and push the P6S and P7 which will be launched soon, probably under another name...

I see that B125 is in distribution hitting Europe now, this with 4.4.x around the corner starting February, makes me ponder the phases, noting that B107 was the last release.

I've read a few reviews online and it seems that the camera isn't great apparently... Could someone possibly tell me how it compares to something like an iPhone 4S or 5 or one of the later generation Samsungs?

I just bought a cheap but fairly spec phone from Orange online - Acer Liquid E2 for R2,200
While I researched it, I found this site where they compared the camera with the Huawei P6 - sample images here
http://www.digitalversus.com/mobile-phone/acer-liquid-e2-duo-p16332/test.html

Sorry, the Acer won that round ;-)

The P6 had been vastly improved with the various leaked Firmwares, the original international B107 sucked when compared with the other Firmware releases in all aspects (Camera and sound improvements came with B118 which is only distributed in China). The second international rollout that started on 25 December in Europe is Firmware B125, which is strange since the 4.4.x based Firmware is supposed to be in distribution starting end January. The viewable screen size is also increased in B118, where you can hide the bottom buttons on the screen. All leaked Firmware can be downloaded and installed on the P6. I however think that the Chinese version released with B111, not sure about this, but it was an improvement above B107.

SA will probably receive Firmware B125 somewhere in this month, don't know about the 4.4.x release...

Seems like the P6 is a good value for money phone. Definitely going to get this next month :D

My contract is due for an upgrade. I have looked at the Samsung S4 mini, Sony Xperia V and Huawei Ascend P6.

I'm not a big fan of Samsung phones (their software design is slightly outdated in my opinion).

My mind is still in two places about the P6. I've heard people complain about gps and wifi issues, but I wonder if this is not just an issue for some? I do like the design and simplicity of the device, so my only concern is reliability.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

GPS and Wi-Fi issues are resolved in the leaked Firmware updates, I think that B118 resolved all known bugs, the international rollout at this stage is Firmware B125 with the expected Android 4.4.x release somewhere next month where the rollout is still undetermined.

Take note that there is a P4, P6S and P7 in the early release cycle planned this year, however the P6S is not the P6 in any means and will be thicker, the phones might also release under other names.

Comparing within the mid-range phones, the Huawei P6 is solid, but not the best option. Nothing beats price vs. quality in comparison with the Nexus 5, but it’s not available here.

Unfortunately the Nexus 5 is not an option as you mentioned. Neither is the Moto G which receives direct updates from Google.

@Fulcrum29, do you yourself own a P6?

I had a look at all the smart phones as I am leaving blackberry after a whole 2 years. Done with rebooting twice a week for the phone to function(9900). I am looking forward to getting a P6. Looks like the best smartphone versus price.
:D

Ascend P6 will get Android 4.4 KitKat with Emotion UI 2.3

Exactly 2 months ago we brought you the news that Android 4.4 KitKat update is coming to Ascend P6 by the end of January (this year) http://huaweinews.com/2013/11/android-4-4-kitkat-ascend-p6/. Huawei seems to be working hard to keep up with that promise but we think they won’t be able to do that in this month like they promised considering the circumstances that you will see below.

Huawei is preparing a whole new version of Emotion UI for the Ascend P6 named as Emotion UI 2.3 and this isn’t surprising considering the final version of Emotion UI 2.0 isn’t that exciting like we saw on leaked pictures http://huaweinews.com/2013/10/emotion-ui-2-0-screenshots-leaked/. Since Emotion UI 2.0 came out with Android 4.3 we guess it’s economical for Huawei marketing wise to bring a different version with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Huawei has opened invitations for beta testing Emotion UI 2.3 and Android 4.4 for Ascend P6 in their Vmall Chinese forums a while ago. Beta test is open for the China Unicom and Mobile, Ascend P6 users. Huawei official’s told that they will deliver Emotion UI 2.3/KitKat beta firmware for the registered users in the middle of this month. Basically the process is that the interested users were asked to submit their details with IMEI numbers and then Huawei will push the beta firmware as a OTA update to the registered IMEI’s. Then beta testers will be able to test the firmware and they were asked to submit a report to Huawei about bugs and other issues. Then the beta testers were asked to revert to the official Emotion UI 1.6 firmware until Huawei finishes up the testing process and delivers the update locally.

Huawei has closed the registrations for the beta now and if all goes with Huawei’s promise, beta testers will receive the firmware within next week and we might be able to obtain a copy for you to test. So like we said at the beginning we don’t think Huawei will be able to release official Android 4.4 Kitkat update within this month because there isn’t much time for testing everything. But we won’t be surprised if Huawei releases it on time as well because regardless of the public tests, Huawei might be already testing the firmware internally. Nevertheless we will have something for you in next few days so stay tuned!

I am still amazed with these news articles as B125 only started to roll out in Europe in late December, maybe it is a prerequisite to upgrade to 4.4 when it maybe rolls out next month…

On another note the latest MIUI based on 4.4.x rollout is happening in February so it might also be an option as it will be P6 ready.

My sister is most probably getting this phone this month. I read a few pages back that it comes with a cover and I'd like to know how it looks, and also if there are any shops that sell alternative covers and screen protectors. I had a look at a couple small retailers around me but all their covers were for iPhones and S4s.
