After a bit of drama (them sending the phone to JHB instead of CPT) I eventually have the phone.

I took her working simcard that has been working flawlessly in my tablet out and put in in the P8 lite. Fork all happens.I go to settings, dual sim card management and try and 'activate' the sim card and it just says failed to activate sim card or it enables it and then 10 sec later get "no service" and cant make any calls etc.

Seems like I received a dud?

Hey, also got a P8Lite from Orange last week. Had exactly the same issue. Tried 3 different sim cards. Same issue.
Contacted Orange. Waiting for the courier to collect the phone and send back to them.

Weird.

Odd. Because a signal missmatch sounds perfect for the symptoms mentioned. At least I assume that's what a CDMA device would behave like on a GSM sim and vice versa.

No. Its definitely a GSM model.
Can get the phone to detect the SIM for 10secs, then it looses signal
The SIM does not remain active. It automatically deactivates. Tried 2 X MTN sims and 1 x Cell C sim.

Got a support call from Orange.
Apparently they are getting a lot of this issue. Factory reset sorts it out. Tested and working on my side.
 
Asked on the other thread... The P8 Lite single and dual sim both have the same hardware and the additional sim slot is locked by Vodacom using software....

There's a thread on XDA but that confused me. Has anyone here done it?

I have tried all three networks. Never once have I noticed the H+ sign change to 4G. You do have the option to force 3 G / 2 G only but not with 4 G force option is 2g / 3 G / 4G all together.. when doing a network search the phone displays mtn / vodacom / having 4 G / 3 G /2 G on my router I can force rhe sim card to make use of 4 G except on this phone.

I pick up 4G at home and around town here:

I am really enjoying my S5 but keep wondering if I should have banked the R4k difference and tried a P8 lite :-/

Too late now...
