Huawei P8 & P8 Lite - Reviews, tips & tricks

a Guy at work got the p8 lite. The display is to faint for me, I adj the brightness to max, but still too faint. The guy said it is fine with him.

Auto brightness on? I've noticed it's dodgy in some phones. For instance both my S4 Mini and my Z3 never gave me 100% brightness despite maxing the bar cuz the light sensor didn't deem it necessary.

Get rid of the setting and buy this

Hey, also got a P8Lite from Orange last week. Had exactly the same issue. Tried 3 different sim cards. Same issue.
Contacted Orange. Waiting for the courier to collect the phone and send back to them.

Weird.

Waited 2 months for Vodacom to get stock of the P8 Lite and when I finally got it I had the same issue as above and they're refusing to take it back - pathetic service

What's the price of the dual sim version of the p8lite these days? Anyone wanting to buy a white one?
Still sealed in box.

I'm assuming you're using the micro sim slot?

Vodacom ones don't have dual sim. There's an out of box failure time of 7 days

My wife's just dropped her S4. So I can put in an insurance claim, or I can get a P8 lite for her from FNB on the smart device thing.
Is the P8 lite a decent replacement for an S4? She's not a hardcore user, just whatsapp, facebook, SMS etc.

Definitely a decent phone and I would personally replace an S4 with the P8 Lite

Yup, at your local China mall if normal stores don't have. I got one for my sister in law

Could only find a p8 case in physical shops. Have ordered a lite case from takealot - http://www.takealot.com/tuff-luv-tpu-gel-case-for-huawei-p8-lite-clear/PLID40647583
The p8 case isn't ideal but it sort of fits so at least there's some protection for now.

Do you guys have any recommendation for screen protection?

First impressions - what a bargain of a phone! It feels good, it looks good, seems to do all the right things, my wife is very chuffed with it :) One thing I'd change - allow both a microSD and a dual sim - but that's not a real issue.

Definitely looks and feels like it should cost a lot more than it did... (Got it through FNB)

There are some covers on bidorbuy and in store over the weekend I see Cell C had the Bodyglove Hard back clear covers called Ghost which look pretty nice . My wife has the P8 Lite and in my opinion its a great device for its price . She got the Dual Sim version which has worked out great as we have moved her data over to prepaid on the second sim with no more OOB worries .

Ours is dual sim too, I was pondering putting in my 8ta 10GB sim, but instead have opted to put in a 32GB microSD, and set the phone to store everything there. She lost quite a few photos, whatsapp msgs etc when she smashed the S4 :(

My Wife came from a device with 16gb and an SD card so basically with her using her second slot for the dual sim function she lost the use of the microSD card slot ,but I think it has been a worthy sacrifice . She has a Tablet as well that has 32gb and an SD Card so every now and then she just moves over some pics etc to the Tablet or the Portable Hard Drive . As for the device itself , it really is a nice device for its price point and its not difficult to see just why they are so popular at the moment in SA.

As for the covers , I got hers off of Bidorbuy . I managed to get 2 TPU covers (Black and Clear) and a tempered protector all for R240 with next day delivery , so not too bad as in store they were selling simple clear TPU covers for like R150 and the tempered protectors for R200 .

Photos should be recoverable through PC?

There is one thing though that Huawei needs to stop doing before they can join the big boys, and that's aping Apple with the lack of app drawer. I was very impressed with the P8 I saw on the weekend...but that will forever be a major turnoff VS the other droids.

Something tells me if I couldn't have gone for the Z3 and would have had to settle for the P8 I wouldn't have been too disappointed.

You mean SIM-lock or something more advanced? Because SIM-lock shouldn't prevent data access.

Normally when the screen is locked you can't access the content of the phone?

When the cable is connected, you don't see the phone on the PC.

Update on the P8 lite - she just phoned me. What a difference over the S4. Normally I battle to hear what she says... seems so much clearer.

Turn the phone off and back on again? Then the screen isn't locked?

Yes it is.

But in my case it brings up the SIM-lock only? The screen will lock after another few seconds but before that time you should be able to establish access?

Wait...did you have USB debugging on in the dev options before the device got smashed? Maybe that's why my phone always allows me to access it through USB because I always turn that on first thing when I get a new phone.
