Generally when you break up with someone you dont want to hang out with them. If you end up with her then your mate will have to hang out with her too when you are around. It makes things uncomfortable at best. Had a mate do that to me and it didnt go down too well.

General Rule :
Bone her on the sly for about 2 months, if you reckon there's a future, then approach your mate .. She may be well out of the picture by then .. then 1 night. when you all had to much to drink you tell your mate that you had a few late romantic nights .. should blow over by morning.
If you find there's a future .. dont expect your Mate to want to hang around with her .. you may have to party in other circles for a while.. If she's getting married and having kids material, then tell your mate not to be such a girl, and let you keep boning her ..
Simple ... (definately not) .. expect lots of troubles for every choice, except the stay away from her choice.

Her sister is hawt. I mean easily a 9.5/10. She's engaged.
