I feel 'skaam' even asking this..

he won't be cool with it ! that is for sure, even if he says yes its a no ;)

the thought of a mate seeing your ex's happy face ... Big no no.

if they dated for like a month, different story, but a year relationship and 3 months after! no! Adhere to the bro code my friend !

BTW, real life version, happened to a mate of mine last year. But the mate who is know dating the ex... lost about 6 good mates, because we dont want a friend like that and it does become a taking sides issue ! so not worth it in my opinion !

screw the bro code. I say go for her!!!

The bro code is some stupid thing made in hollywood. There is no such thing.

At the end of the day, its what makes you happy. Mates come and go, but a soulmate doesnt.

our group of bro's had our own code, waaaaaay before HIMYM came into being, and shaggin' another mate's ex was a definite NO NO.

If he is just some acquaintance and not a real "Bro", then i'd say DO it :o

Hey,off topic I know but does anyone remember those sweets called "Double Dip" ?

Blasphemy!!
Before I met the one I went thru quite a few the ones and the only constant that stood by me was my friends.
Even now there just a phone call away for what ever I need.

umm how many real friends do you have?

Anyways, I say ask him. Maybe he's totally over her. But of he hesitates then you got to ask yourself.. is this chick worth losing your buddy over? Then stop thinking with the little head for a bit, and ask the big head.

A couple of things to consider here:

How good a friend is he?
What do you think he would do if the roles were reversed? how would you feel?
Is she hot? Is she worth losing a friend over?

Take into account this possible scenario:

You hook up with your friends ex, he doesn't dig it and the friendship is ruined. You enjoy the company of your ex-friend's ex for however long it lasts. Your ex-friend and your current gf rediscover their feelings for each other, you lose a gf and a good friend.

The most unlikely scenario, your mate accepts it and you remain best buds while you and his ex live happily ever after. (I've never scene this happen except in the movies)

Either way, it's a Jerry Springer episode in the making.

He's a good friend. I mean we don't hold hands etc.
We hardly ever chat..
We only really chat when I see other friends that are his friends as well..

Anyway, cut a long story short, the chick is a really nice lady. Down to earth etc.
She's not stunningly hot - kinda 7.5/10.

You guys are right. So it's window shopping for me.
:(

Damn it.

It's a bit too soon. I'd say, wait at least another 3-5 months and then ask him if he's okay with it. But by that time you would've moved on anyway... awwww shocker!

And all of you Barney fans forget that he broke his own code by dating Robin, which goes to prove that even Barney says 'Screw the code!'

Yeah, and how did ted feel after barney broke the rule?

and how did barney himself cope?

that's about what happens in real life too.

3 months is min...

Can't you take it slow with her and just kinda be friends for a little while? 6 months would be better if you value your friendship with your mate.

Otherwise it's kinda simple: bone her, be a nice guy or be friends with him - pick two.

Imo you and the friend and his ex need to be very very mature if this has any chance of working out so no one feels angry or done in.

We have a rule in our friendship circle.
Never shag an ex and never shag a friends' ex.
It gets complicated when you get together.

Agreed, wait a bit. Maybe they decide to get back together, it's only been 3 months after all. if she's still single after 6 months, I say go for it. he doesn't sound like a close enough friend.
