Well its 7.5 hours since my last one. I was tempted about an hour ago. My wife smoked so that makes it all the harder. Yes I said smoked. I asked her at about 6pm to join me and we flushed hers down the loo too. Now there is nothing in the house at all. Our home is now smoke(s) free for the first time! I am worried that we'll cave tomorrow morning. Just joking about the smarties but I bought like kilo of chewing gum (sugar free) on Friday. I've been wanting to do this ever since last year but everytime found excuses like too much pressure at work or business trips. What actually won me over is not all the health benefits but in around April, I had four connecting flights from the US to Amsterdam and then to JHB. My first plane was late so I arrived at each airport with no time to go through customs to get outside the terminals to smoke. I was basically about 27 hours without a smoke and it didn't bother me. In fact when I arrived at ORT I got in my car and had a smoke about 6 hours later at home. Bring that almost to a full day and a half. So I then knew I could do it. Another thing is I have Great Gran who smoked into her 90's as well a other Grand parents that are well into their 80's and all smoke so I think its probably not a killer in family as it is in others. On the other hand I have had poor health in the last few years. Primarily brought on by stress and anxiety. I am scared that my smoking will just push me over the edge. My Doctor recommended the smoking cessation about three months ago. He said my anxiety, stress, boozing, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and the smoking are going to kill me. So I have quit the tipple now quit the smoking and will next year look for an easier "balanced lifestyle" job. But today I must conquer the smoking crazies. I think cold turkey is the best. I tried the patches when they first came out...what a waste of time..just dragging out the inevatable. BTW, You guys are way to kind. Thx. I would in the past mock people who were trying to quit. I suppose when I was 20 I thought it was cool, hell even this morning. Now I thing smoking is just stupid.
