As the title suggests...
ISP's that are out in my opinion
Afrihost- Been with them for years; no complaints until I started running part of my business from home and I had to use a VPN provider for security reasons. I have zero issues 20 hours a day but between 18:00 and 23:00 give or take an hour VPN traffic is throttled to 1mbps. I don't mind but my family wants to watch Netflix and that's simply not an option if I need to work. The issue was escalated to critical care but after they couldn't fix it they simply stopped responding (Thanx Pranav in critical care) So Afrihost is out. Unsure how legal it is to throttle encrypted data regardless of what it is. Throttle P2P; NNTP and even HTTP downloads is fine if they use deep packet inspection to see what they are throttling but they don't.
Axxess- Afrihost's parent company out by association
But joking aside their even worse then Afrihost. Though their capped packages are well priced and I don't have issues behind my VPN on the pre-paid Axxess account. 3month rollover; Unshaped I might think about it though the Uncapped account throttles VPN traffic all the time not just peak evening times.
ISP's I'm considering. Again just opinion from reading
Crystalweb- Seems to be everyone's favorite on myBB. The website seems a bit uninformative. Premium uncapped applies dynamic shaping (Second tier as I understand); fair enough. But my interest's in the the 250GB xTREME Home Capped account. The vague part is I can't find out if the package is shaped or not and it's the same price as the premium uncapped...why? Extreme capped has rollover (If you know the period of rollover please let me know) 18hours free data. Only time I use data is 18:00 to Midnight. If that's unshaped my family can stream Netflix and I can get some work done during that time.
Vox Fat Pipe- Unshaped unlimited rollover(T&C APPLY) but still... sounds perfect on paper... I don't know how the real thing would compare.
So those are the ones I'm considering. If someone can give me any advise that would be great. It seems like I'm going capped because not using my VPN isn't an option. I like my privacy and my business needs it. ISP's should use deep packet inspection to shape relevant protocols and not throttle VPN traffic blindly when their networks are strained.
