iBurst Open DC++ Hub FAQ/GUIDE

As long as you're sharing at least 9GB of hashed files it should connect just fine. I tried to connect without sharing anything and kept getting kicked out :(

Oh and

if=/dev/null of=fakeshare.mpg bs=1024M count=9

will not work, the server checks our shares and doesn't like one big a$$ lump of file exactly 9GB in size...

What do you folks prefer? linuxDC++ or something like DC++ on Wine?

I've never been a fan of WINE or crossover for that matter. It takes far too long to get the application working! If you HAVE to use a Windows app, rather get VMWare and run a virutal system. Even better, run Xen which is a bit more difficult to setup initially but at least you can update your kernel with breaking anything (unlike VMWare).

Not so. I've got uTorrent working on Wine, and it didn't take long to set up at all. At least with Wine I don't have virtual machines wasting my resources.

www.ubuntuguide.org - a fantastic resource for getting up and running on Ubuntu.

k, just bare with me, wanna make sure i understand...

transferring stuff on the ibust hub between iburst users still counts towards your bandwidth usage if u not capped right?

And i also managed to find out that even if i closed the dc++ app, an upload still carried on! Um.. how do i make sure this doesnt keep happening!? Can someone keep connecting to you whenever they want?

Yes.

And that also happened to me a few times. If you close your client just make sure there isn't still an instance of it running in the background. Look in Task Manager. I doubt any new connections will be accepted, because you won't be listed on the hub anymore, but for me I think they stopped in any case after I killed the process.

Normally that kind of thing is a setting in the preferences which will state something like quit after all transfers completed

I also had a problem this morning, getting a message something like
"Connection actively refused by remote computer"

(Not sure of the exact wording, as I am at work at the moment)

Yip, its down this morning. Server or program crashed?

Message is
Code:
*** Connecting to ibust-za.kicks-ass.net:20891...
*** No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

hey all

so what are the alternatives then? other hubs? programs? i dunno...

Nope...nothing as far as I know. Only way would be to have your friend on iburst make a torrent, seed it and you download....or set up a private ftp but both of those are time consuming and waaaaay less useful than the hub.

Anyone have JontyB's email addy? I sent a PM but it looks like he almost never signs in here so it might be a whileywhile before he sees it :/
