iBurst Speed Test Results

haha No one from this rubbish company cares about the customers. Well my contract is FINISHED, hell yeah!

Im done with this bullcrap, a soon as I find another wireless ISP I am GONE like a demons whisper!

Fair speed, good quality

Speed:
3088683005.png

Quality:
89003449.png

Server latency = 68ms (41.208.224.1)
Tower = Glenwood, DBN (South Ridge)
Avg Signal = -96dB
Tower Load = 1

Quality of comms is good, but there's definitely signs of speed throttling. Don't usually see it at ungodly hours, and when tower load is only 1, but it's at least quite responsive when browsing.

And this with an external directional antenna whose position has not changed....

What's the excuse this time, iBurst?
...
Actually, save the excuses for someone who cares. I think it's time to cancel my contract.

As always, the speed tests done with a 1MB Desktop Modem connected to a Flat Panel Antenna that's pointed at the nearest, least busy base station. No background programs that could interfere are running, and the MTU is set to 1392.

As a reference, this is a speed test I did back in February, shortly after iBurst sent out a technician who installed the flat panel antenna and optimised everything.

2) MYBB Cape Town Speedtest

3) MYBB International Speedtest

3) iBurst Speed Test
Download speed: 0.11mbps
Upload Speed: 0.00mbps
RTT: 495ms
Speed consistency: 12%

It's just not worth it anymore. I have gigs of data piling up that I can't use due to the horrendous speeds/connection. iBurst is, through their current policies, dictating how I use MY data. Steam and YouTube are basically a no-go, as is almost everything else. I'm throwing money at a useless company while getting nothing in return.

I am also at a point where i want to go stick some equipment where it does not belong.

I have a 2mb Modem, i also have a Flat Panel Antenna pointing at the "best" tower. when i say best, i refer to Line-Of-Sight

Here is a picture of my location and the locations of the towers: iBurstCoverage.jpg

See my previous post:

At first i thought it was signal strength, so i went and bought a flat panel antenna. This to my surprise bosted my speeds to a point where i got extremely close to the 2mbits/s advertised.

But since then, it has slowly started to degrade. it started to disconnect every hour or so. I see this clearly as i am using VPN and it tells me as soon as my internet connection goes down.

I was still managing every hour or so, but lately my connection drops at least once every 2 minutes.

I had a look at my signal strength and it is 100% constantly, i had a look at my error rate, and it is 0.34, which is very low. I also checked if it is not jumping between towers, and it stays on 0001 all the time, only if i change the direction of my flatpanel does it change to a different tower

This signal drop eases later at night, so the only thing i can do on my iburst line is pirate, cause that works from 11pm to 5am

I know for a fact it is not VPN, cause if i use my 3G card my VPN stays connected for days on end.

I went about trying to play with MTU and here is my results:

MTU - 1492

Avarege Ping: 159.2

http://www.speedtest.net/result/3143564750.png - P:206 - U:0.23 - D:0.63

As you can see, MTU did make a tiny differnce in download speed, however, the speeds are so eratic, that i don't want to beleive it.

I'm also not that keen on changing the MTU as certain websites does not always work if i set my MTU to 1392

I am so sick and tired of constant disconnects... CONSTANT .. CONSTANT ... F'ING CONSTANT
I am so sick ant tired of slow speeds

All i ever get is: Please "pay R375 for a technician to come and assist". I have now had someone here twice, and it always seem fine for a few hours afterwards.... then..... back to this.

Surely.... SURELY, this is not what you expect your customers do live and be happy with.

You may be better off aiming at a base station that doesn't have the best signal strength, but has a lighter load.

Put up my external antenna today and my signal went from 80-90% to 100% and now finally getting acceptable speeds, for the cost anyway.

Table View area, Cape Town. 2Mb modem.

Download speed is 590kbps and upload is 288kbps latency 126ms on jhb server. The modem is a 1MB desktop
The signal is aligned to Bscc 31 VornaValley which provides -76 db from an omni-directional antenna.
Would a directional antenna provide any additional value / gain?
Thanks

Hi sreddi

Yes a directional will give a better gain as it is a higher gain antenna then the omni directional antenna
The omni is 7db gain with the flat panel antenna bieng a 13db gain antenna

Does anyone still offer dial up?
