iBurst Speed Test Results

I am fed up with Iburst speeds. One day it will make me smile and the next 2 weeks it will be pathetic. And I have complained and complained. Their new excuse is, I am between base stations.....

Download speed:26.4KB/s
Upload speed: 5.9KB/s

But who to use..... ish
Looking at Neotel now

Hi Gotcha365

Can you please PM me your account details & contact number

Iburst speeds have lately become so bad that I can no longer play the online game that has worked fine for the past year. I had a ping of about 280ms to a server in Germany. Lately it averages about 360ms with spikes going up to 800ms which is just useless. Is it perhaps due to them changing there international link from MTN busness to telia.net in Sweden. Phoning help desk got this response.. I am in a poor signal area and need an external antenna. I pointed out that I am about 400 meters from the Iburst base station. But it seems that they want to make R500 from me just to test if the antenna will help. Why would things change? My house has been within 400 meters of the base station all this time. A tracert reveals that the connection to telia.net is pathetic:

1 42 ms 49 ms 44 ms lac4.cpt.wbs.co.za [41.56.199.1]
2 90 ms 49 ms 44 ms vl75.cs2.cpt.wbs.co.za [41.56.254.3]
3 128 ms 49 ms 54 ms ge0-1.75.cr2.cpt.wbs.co.za [41.56.254.31]
4 374 ms 234 ms 189 ms ldn-b4-link.telia.net [80.239.135.233]
5 565 ms 294 ms 300 ms level3-ic-143383-ldn-b5.c.telia.net [213.248.96.38]

Yes guess what that 565 ms seconds does to your game...

It is all over the place. Look at these pings. to the second telia server...

When it comes to games consitency matters, not the average ping. Its the worst pings that get you kicked from the server

And telia dont seem to have a direct link to Germany, they then route through London and then to Germany...

Technical support then decided that perhaps moving to iburst adsl would help... I doubt that a move to ADSL would involve Iburst in any shape or form. I can just imagine the blame game...its the Telkom cable.

Iburst has been quite good lately. I use it only as a standby for Mweb ADSL that usually does not work on Mondays (not working again today)

Hi guys

I would love to compare some speed test results taken by yourselves from various locations, times etc.

I put together a lists of test I would like done.

These tests should be done straight after one another to be able to give me a accurate comparison.

1) iBurst speed test - Upload speed
- Download speed
Ping www.iburst.co.za - Average milliseconds at the bottom right of your ping.

2) www.speedtest.net - Johannesburg server
Upload speed
Download speed
Latency

3) www.speedtest.net - New York server
Upload speed
Download speed
Latency

Please indicate date & time of your test and location.

Your results you can mail directly to me so that I can set up some comparisons.

Multiple test for different times of the day would be greatly appreciated.

With this I will also be able to locate those of you suffering from some signal issues.

You can do these tests as much as you you would like them to be done.

Not too much now. I am not going to be giving any bandwidth away.

As I always say... "May the signal be with you."

Hi RVFmal

Please PM me your details so we can sort this issue out for you

Hi Slowmow

I am glad you got good speeds in no covered area but it might be tempoary.
Can you give me your physical address so i can confirm your coverage?

Yes it looks like you are just outside of coverage but it is possible you have line of site to the germiston lake base station
Can you give me your UTID on the modem & I can confirm which base station you connect to
The UTID should start with 00126

UTID 001264403760933

I got line of site to the building next to Germiston lake

Yes you are connecting on that base station & the line of site is why your speeds are good even in a non coverage area
