iBurst uncapped debate

If you're currently in a contract and you had the throttled service before, you must still have it. PM me / Ronald / Gcebile your account details and we'll check.

Interesting .... I also tried to phone the iburst support regarding my contract and the throttled service....and of course no one knows anything about what Jannie has said ... and It seems that Jannie has turned of the PM functionality .... Has any one else achieved any joy about this query ....

I did not really care much about the 64kbs thing , yes it was convenient to have, until recently where I got a new gfx card for my son and with this one got a free game that you need to download from steam and it's a wopping 10GB ..... now to be honest this means that the game itself will cost me R455 + R199 = 654 and I can buy it for R300.00 ....

so this is no P2P no torrents of illegal movies etc..... all legit andabove board ... but it's not worth it ???

Does anyone here have a good alternative to go for and some costs associated with that ?? i.e. ADSL uncapped ?? with a good ISP ???

@ amtheron

if you signed up to Iburst while the 64k was included free of charge, just PM the Iburst rep and they will re-instate it till the end of your contract.

This thread (with all the so called trollers) are needed for people to be able to make an informed choice. Now you know that you cannot make a decision which might seem good now, cause they can change the terms when they want to. I also feel it is unfair to claim that current subscribers can stay on their current packages, but then turns around and change it as soon as the contract period is finished (whether a month or a year). This is lying, as I understand the definition.

Well Thanks Turisimo ..... Can you believe this ... it took me 20min on the phone this morning being sent from one helpdesk support person to the other which then finally just logged a call and said they would come back to me in 72hrs with some sort of answer .... within 5min emailing the iburst rep (the mail addy that you supplied) I got an answer and my 64kbs throttled service has been re-activated .... hows that for fast service ??

thanks again ;-)

i have uncapped wireless from easyweb, maybe not the cheapest anymore but at least they helped me, was online in 24hours

Typical iburst trying sugar coating the facts.
First Jannie and his groupies get me banned from the Iburst forums and then carries on with their lies , knowing very well I cant post there anymore.
Really grow a freakin spine.

You LIED when you said that anyone can go back to their old pricing package if they wanted to and that is a fact!
Check my signature if you "cant remember".
Im laughing all the way with my uncapped account at your pathetic attempt to cover up your blatant disrespect for clients, lack of service and failure to keep to your word. You would make a brilliant politician.
When Iburst goes backwards and takes away their measly uncapped 64k , mweb shows what a propper ISP should be doing . MOVING FORWARD.

Nowhere has mweb adverstised their new product.
The product advertised itself by what it provides and word-of-mouth and even ended up in newspapers.
The only word-of-mouth you will get is for people to stay away.

You may stop my posting by getting your lapdog diegoa to get me banned from the iburst forums to minimize the damage I do by proving Iburst is nothing but a waste but you cant stop me from spreading the word via word of mouth.

I can just laugh at your weak attempts at covering up your lies.

LIES - the iburst way !

Hahaha I love how iburst is all quiet now about their new "cheaper prices".

Wel know I just need to get Telkom to add more ADSL ports in my area ;-(

woah, let me get this whole thing straight.

iBurst has a small group of users who abused the 64kbps service and downloaded nearly 100gb via torrents, and iBurst fixes this by taking this service away from everyone and making this a value added service.
I'm not moaning about this, sounds valid, but why not just disconnect these people? It cant be that hard to create a system that notifies you that someone is downloading too much?

One last thing, isn't it possible for these small group of users to just get 1gb accounts and the 64kbps service and continue to download large quantities of data? I mean its not as cheap as it used to be, but going on what I read on article it should still be possible.

The download is only ±20GB. Mr van Zyl adds the upload too, which is about ±100GB.
I believe the simplest solution would be change the throttle speed from 64/386 kbps to 64/64 kbps. Who needs to upload that much anyways?

I'm using Tradepage as a reseller and they said that they carry no knowledge of the VAS, hence they won't sell it to me. I asked Ronald aka rooigev@@r more than 2 weeks ago if iBurst will sell me the VAS and he said someone will contact me. I haven't had a single missed call, nor a a single voicemail.

The only reason I'm still using it is because there is no DSLAM's available in my area, go figure.

Actually ...
They still offer the service AS A EXTRA PAID PACKAGE.
So their network can take the load , they just wanted to squeeze customers wallet a little more .

They made identical packages more expensive . In some cases packages increased by 40% .
In an era that finally sees quality broadband access with no data limits affordable ( /bow to mweb for starting this .Well played :) ) , Iburst just cant compete.

Lets look at the value of this 'new' Throttled VAS.

Firstly, you already get one of the best (if not the best) rate on your in-bundle price. For example R149 for the 1st Gig all inclusive (Wireless-1), vs. R169 to R199 with the best 384kb/s ADSL deal. See this link.

Mow, with the VAS you’ll pay R199 additional for 64Kb/s uncapped and R249 for 128Kb/s uncapped.

With 64K, you can download around 20GB in one month. If we take the normal 25% up to 100% down ratio, you can do about 25GB for R199. This gives you an effect rate of R7.96/GB. This must count as one of the best possible data rates in the country.

It gets even better with 128Kb/s uncapped. Here you can do about 50GB for R249, giving you a rate of R4.98/GB.

That is less than half a cent per Megabyte!

In summary, with the new pricing you not only get one of the best in-bundle rates in the country of 3.9c/MB but the all-in price of R149 for a 1GB bundle is most likely the lowest in the industry. And now, with the added VAS, you get the extra data at less than 0.5c/MB.

Surely one of the best deals available to consumers today?

As stated before, a full-speed, after hours, uncapped service is due soon and this will be the perfect application for the P2P guys.

http://www.mweb.co.za/adsl/ I beg to disaggree. Cancelling my Iburst soon for ADSL. Mweb can supply uncapped 384kb/s bandwidth for R199 per month (see link). They even have bundle specials of R349 including ADSL line rental. So Iburst is R199 p.m. plus R249 now for me. R449 total. ADSL, which gives me 200% better speed (at 384kb/s) will work out R349 plus your telkom phone rental, in other words the same price. Telkom for me soon. Phoning them to find out when I can get ADSL installed. Tired of being cheated. Also, before this new packages, I used 3.5gb to 5 gb maximum per month (at 64kb's throttled) Don't know where you get to 100mb??? Now, since I had to top up my account this month to have decent speeds I had to add 7gb allready to my 2gb package, bringing the total to 9gb?? Someone needs to monitor actual bandwidth used!! Good example, the 2gb lasted me 12 days. Then add 1gb, that lasted me 3 days. And every 3 days to 4 days 1gb all the time? Strange. But, soon Telkom for me, tired of this.

You may want to read this first.

Followed your link. Yes, know about Iburst giving uncapped after 12 at night, till 8 in the morning. For the average user, that is employed and needs to sleep, it means nothing. Iburst is one of the worst ISP's out there.

Also, even at 128kb's uncapped Iburst option, I want to see a user that can download 100gb for the month. It is just not possible. A 180mb patch on a game took me 13 hours to download on this option. If I did not reach my cap, it will take under an hour, which is acceptable. It is time Iburst realise gaming, youtube, etc etc requires more bandwidth. The internet is not meant only for business, the entertainment side is so MUCH MORE!!!! Age of Conan, a game I enjoyed when it came out the first time, has about 5gb of patches now. And that is without the 3gb+ the game will use if you play it on a daily basis (3gb bandwidth for a month of gaming, including the daily/weekly new patches). So, the only way to enjoy internet, you have to get ADSL uncapped. For business, and reading your email, yes, then I burst is fine.
