Illegal to stream from SA

So if I publish something on one of my websites and I make money from Adsense on the page that the video is on, am I a commercial online distributor?

very good question, not sure about the answer at all......this was not even considered when this Bill was being debated. clear that ordinary folk just streaming or uploading are not required to register and clear that video-on-demand providers are in the business of distributing content so would be required to register. Between the two is not at all clear.....

..but given the history of the implementation of the Films and Publications Act over the last 20 years i doubt there will be any change for those making some revenue off their uploads or streams

[it is hard to convey just how crap this Bill is.....]

So basically what it boils down too... Nothing really, don't be alarmed it's not going to be illegal to stream from South Africa.

That is where the kak is going to come from like the embed aspect, if you own a website and you embed lets say a YT video of a Marvel movie trailer, you could get into **** as said trailer has not been approved by the FPB but as the site is is accessible from is owned/manaeged by you, you are the direct to consumer broadcaster of said video regardless of the source of the content.

Nonsense.

That would be like holding the corner pub responsible for playing something on the TV that was broadcast by DSTV.

You really need to tone down the FUD.

Jislaaik, just opened this page on IE by accident. Haven't seen ads on a page in ages, hectic. Thor, are you getting some ad or referral revenue from these ads (like the youtube guys get from Google) ? I mean, you are the guy that ran with this story first on MyBB. Would be great if forumites get a cut from the ads, if they get the story first to the forum. :whistling:
