I'm dismayed. I received a ticket today.

I always wear a seatbelt, insist that my passengers do the same, or they walk.

Then again, when you see crash tests like the Datsun Go's, a seatbelt will make no difference.

So basically Picard gets fined because he disobeyed a rule of the road by not wearing a seatbelt, then comes here expecting sympathy....hmmmm. I feel ya bru!

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld quote about helmet laws.

The only thing dumber than the helmet is the helmet law, the point of which is to protect a brain that is functioning so poorly, it's not even trying to stop the cracking of the head that it's in...

Thread derail, sorry. :o

Has anybody received a fine for using their cell phone while driving?

I saw a Metro cop pull over a lady just this morning on my way to work. The lady in question was chatting on her cell and swerving her car all over the lane so the Metro van that was parked at an island noticed and followed her.

This is good news, people using their phones do not pay enough attention to what they are doing while driving.

I know of a few people who have been in accidents without a seatbelt and came out unscathed. Infact a friend of mine was in a car that rolled at over 150km/h, knocked two light poles over in the process and he walked away with some whiplash.

However this is no excuse for not wearing a seatbelt.

People are over confident that the vehicle airbags will protect them in an accident which is not the case. You must wear your safety belt for it to work optimally.

Those people need to realise that without a seatbelt, they're going to encounter an airbag that is moving towards them at 400km/h, NOT counting the speed differential caused by the collision.

That's going to hurt a LOT.

OP can drive as conscientiously and carefully as he likes, but not wearing a seatbelt is risky. He deserved the fine. Suck it up.

Another eye opener from our old friend, saturnz...

Myself was in an accident on the Weekend. No seat belt, busted my knee pretty bad. Lucky we never hit a tree or something. That would have been insane. Pretty sore and that from hitting an island... /buckle up

So I was driving along on a stretch of road with a speed limit of 100km/h.

I was driving at 95km/h. I always ... I mean, always, obey the speed limit. I always drive conscientiously and is always polite and courteous to all road-goers and at a four way stop. Driving is a relaxing and safe pleasure to me.

The stretch of road is only a couple of kilometres long and quiet ... very quiet.

The suddenly a traffic official car's sirens went on behind me and pulled me over.

For you sir ... R500 ... you were not wearing your seat belt. I'm like ... What?!?!?!??

He literally drove up to me and checked me out.

His next words were ... "Be grateful, if you drove over a stop sign, it's R3000".

R500 is a lot of money to me. :(

EDIT: And by the way ... I drive this road twice a week the whole year ... why now 3 days before Christmas???

So you are guilty. Next.

I'm not someone who always obeys the speed limit, I can admit that. But I always wear a seatbelt. Even when driving around the premises at my work, get in the car - seatbelt on.

From now on it is a slippery slope into the world of gangsterism, drugs and politics.....

Wear the safety belt to hold you back.
