I'm going to war!!! With sugar.

Nice intro.
Looks like something I'll follow.

Hardly have sugar it's the occasional bread and floury stuff that lets me down.

Thanks!

To be honest: When I cut out breads and floury goods the changes were huge in the first 5 days compared to cutting out sugar.

Oh yes here's day 3,4 and 5:

I keep forgetting to ask you.

Do you have low blood sugar or high blood sugar? It's weird that your hands are tingling?

Usually a circulation issue; blood sugar would affect his brain more (passing out etc)

blood sugar is usually very stable if you eat right, it's only unstable if you feed on carbs (or sugars) that spike it, which gives you that downswing

What about low blood pressure though?

Clearly from the videos though, your metabolism is a non-issue. Those of us who are very overweight have to content not only with cravings but a metabolism thats so shot I can eat celery 3 times a day and i'll prob still put on weight! (not that i do, just saying..)

Interesting to see the other effects of sugar though here though, that one doesn't always think of when focusing only on the diet aspects of it.

I've been on sweeteners now for about 15 years. Mainly canderel and other sucralose-based ones. Did nothing for me losing weight, but I always hoped it spared me from the other side effects of sugar.

Firstly you cannot blame your metabolism for being over weight. Unless you have a medical condition such as a thyroid problem which actually does cause major issues with the way your body breaks down your food. You will always loose weight if you consume less calories than your basal metabolic rate (amount of calories your body burns in a steady state). Sean probably has good genetics he is tall and he is well built due to physical activity but I'm sure that if he had a slow metabolism he wouldn't be pear shaped. Genetically I'm not meant to be in the shape I am meant to be but due to good eating habits, I have a really low body fat.

Also some sweeteners still raises your insulin levels the same way sugar does. It's a really good exercise to cut out sugar, you realise how sweet most things are you also start reading labels and automatically eating less processed food and your weight just falls off. I was never overweight but I was pudgy in a month I lost 5kg from doing this exact exercise while excluding dairy too.

I was going to mention calories here.
I was on the other end of the scale, quite skinny and really struggled to gain weight (I blamed this on my "fast metabolism") Once I actually got my caloric intake in order and realised I was under eating, I started to gain weight.

On the note of not seeing too much of a physical difference - my taste buds have come alive. I have to say, it's wonderful. Eve eating a simple salad is now delicious.

In April I weighed 76kg. According to the experts my healthy weight is between 46 and 62kg. I had moved and in the UK, this means you need to change GP, which involves an initial health check. I got a shock at the results. My blood pressure was high. It was 157/89. I decided I had to do something.

As of today my weight is between 65 and 66kg. My goal is to first get to average under 61kg by the end of the year. I want to get to around 55kg.

Here is how I have lost 10/11 kg do far:
1 - Stop adding sugar
2 - Stop adding salt
3 - Eat smaller supper portions. For example if I am eating chicken, I only have 1 chicken breast, no skin. Usually cooked with a tomatoe and 1/4 onion.
4 - 30 minutes of excercise at least 5 days a week. I think I manage 7 days most weeks.
5 - I have cut out bread. Occasionally I will have a bacon butty. Usually a Friday. No more than twice a month.
6 - Protein breakfast of 2 rashes of bacon and 1 egg
7 - Snack between meals of a small handleful of nuts. I like walnuts. This helps to stick to eating small meals.

In Sept I had to replace all my trousers and belts. I walked into the store literally holding my pants up. Went from a 36inch waist to 32inch. Soon I will need to go down to 30inch.

I also eat more fish and less red meat.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with a Ankylosis Spondolitus. I have been taking meds every day since then. In April I stopped. The meds where also partly responsible for my blood pressure being high. Because I am excercising, i haven't needed to take the meds. Usually when stopped the meds I was in pain after 4 days. I have twice since April had some mild discomfort, which 2 nurofen sorted out.

For the last 2 weeks I have started doing push-ups and sit-ups as well 3 or 4 times a week. I can do 3 sets of 12 push-ups and 3 sets of 15 sit-ups.

So for me declaring war on sugar has been a significant part of getting healthy.

I start off every week with a war on sugar, carbs and anything unhealthy.

By Thursday its shot down, crashed and burning in a large plume of smoke... *sigh*
